While Meandering Through Life…

Six Word Photo Story: Freestyle

Make only memories, leave only footprints

A wintry afternoon at a seaside town in southern India in Tamil Nadu.

I was whiling away time gazing at the sea (one of my favorite pastimes), drooling, dipping my feet, slowly rubbing against the sand, enjoying the warmth, and of course getting my pedicure for free — courtesy — Mother Nature.

So far I could listen, it was only the murmuring of the hypnotic sea waves in the otherwise silent set-up.

No delay, no wait, just in sync with time — rhythmic, roaring, regular. How romantic!

I was yawning, enjoying the sway in the air, and turning somewhat half-dreamy and half-sleepy (both together simultaneously….wink wink) and then when my son and husband wished to wade through the waves.

They insisted I accompany them but I was the one who was enjoying my ‘inertia at rest’. Finally, they moved ahead without me.

I could see them approaching the sea leaving footprints on the sand. That captured my attention and my mobile cam was put to action.

I fondly remembered the thought-provoking words of the Father of Mindfulness, Thích Nhất Hạnh:

… I knew this body was not mine but a living continuation of my mother and my father and my grandparents and great-grandparents. Of all my ancestors. Those feet that I saw as “my” feet were actually “our” feet.

I smiled on my own and moved nearer to the sea letting the waves break over me. I felt complete and contented and could see how delightfully the father-son duo was still playing with the waves. I was filled with gratitude for everything that I have and am thankful for every breath that I take.
