While Everyone Else is Stressing About Medium Payments, I Continue to Write for Pleasure
How blogging for pleasure is a much better approach than just the money

All the rants about how Medium pays less has flooded my entire newsfeed lately and it entertains me how people feel like Medium owes them something.
Medium owes us nothing and the algorithm or the user-base will choose what gets put on a pedestal or not.
The payment system will always evolve. Posting five years ago and making bank off a post is no more. People get too caught up in a system that works perfectly for them and then panic as soon as it stops working in their favor.
I’ve never been a writer who made a lot of money, and maybe it’s better that way.
It’s easy to have low expectations for earning on Medium if you haven’t already had more than a $1,000 month.
On my deployment, I discovered Medium to create meaningful content while I was away from home. This platform has served as a creative outlet for me to get my ideas out there into the world, no matter how many people read me.
I couldn't care less about the earnings because I don’t write for a living. That’s something I’d love to tell most of the newer writers.
Five years ago, there wasn’t a lot of buzz around Medium, but now that everyone knows about it we feel like we all deserve something.
The satisfaction of pressing “publish” and receiving meaningful responses from my work is more fulfilling than seeing my earnings for the month.
Will I write more if I make more? Probably.
Will I write less if I earn less? Not a chance.
I want to make the more gratuitous route of things. I want to thank Medium for giving me a space to write and feel like I get to maintain my individuality. I appreciate the ease of writing content and putting it out there.
I love I don’t have to do all the ins and outs of WordPress and get to focus more on my writing.
The quality of my work has its peaks and valleys, but being a writer will always hold a special place in my heart.
Everyone has a different life purpose besides making a lot of money. Work, write, play, have fun, and make memories. It’s such a simple formula, yet we’re all wrapped up in the dollar bill.
If you’re good enough, you’ll make a killing and earn a ton! And we’re all happy for you! But not everyone is going to milk the earnings here. That’s just not plausible.
Writing for pleasure is a decision. To look at this opportunity as a creative space rather than a job makes me happy to return every single day.
So when you’re thinking that this platform owes you something, think again. There are bigger things to worry about. I’ll be smooth sailing, enjoying writing about whatever I feel like, and maybe something will happen one day.
Until then, I’m just gonna take it easy and write with a big smile on my face.
