Where to Sell Your AI Digital Art: My Personal Experience

You’ve dedicated countless hours to creating the perfect AI art, but it’s been a solo journey thus far.

There is no one else who has to see your art.

So, perhaps it’s time to consider selling your AI digital art.

In this article, I will show you the best places where you can showcase and sell your AI designs.

But before I talk more about the details of each marketplace, let’s address the burning question: Is it legal to sell AI-generated images?

The answer is a resounding yes. However, it is important to understand the license under which your AI images were generated. Although AI-generated art does not qualify for copyright protection, you can still sell your art for commercial use. It’s important to note that while you can sell your art, others may use it without legal consequences.

Now, let’s explore various places for selling your AI artwork online.

Marketplaces — Etsy, Redbubble, and More

One of the most popular channels is through established marketplaces such as Etsy and Redbubble.

I’m selling on both of these platforms, and Etsy is my favorite one.

However, the advantage of using any of these marketplaces is the ease of finding potential customers. I’m talking about 24 million monthly visitors on Redbubble and an incredible 450 million hungry buyers on Etsy.

So, to increase your chances of success on these platforms, ensure that you offer unique and trending pieces that align with what customers are actively searching for.

Take a look at the top-performing products on Etsy to gain insights into what resonates with buyers.

Stock Image Sites

Another place worth exploring is stock image sites.

Platforms like Adobe Stock, 123RF, or Freepik provide opportunities for you to submit your AI-generated designs for sale.

If you opt for this route, keep in mind that the most popular content on stock image sites tends to be scenic backgrounds and photorealistic images.

Consider the target audience on these platforms, which often includes designers, journalists, and businesses.

Flashy anime digital art might not be the primary interest here. Instead, think of subjects like natural gas plants, drone imagery of solar panels, or corporate office photos that cater to the needs of these buyers.

And don’t forget that all these marketplaces have an AI policy in place. When submitting your work, make sure to specify that your designs were generated using AI.

Freelance Sites — Fiverr and Upwork

Freelance sites like Fiverr and Upwork also offer promising opportunities for selling your AI art.

The simplest approach is to directly sell your AI art files.

However, a more effective strategy is to package your services in a customizable manner.

For instance, you could offer personalized couples’ digital art based on submitted photos or sell a collection of AI avatars generated from customers’ images.

Many people are still unaware of the capabilities of AI generators and would like to purchase a collection of 10 unique images.

Enhancing the final product with photo editing services could be an added bonus.

You should also keep in mind that creating your offer on freelance sites requires careful consideration of the value you provide to your customers.

Your Own Website

Most of the places I mentioned earlier allow you to capitalize on their customer base. In return, they compensate you with a fee for each sale you make on their platforms.

At some point, you may want to move on and build your ecosystem.

Fortunately, there are numerous dedicated services available where you can effortlessly build an entire e-commerce store within minutes, even if you have no coding skills.

I’m talking about popular website-building platforms such as Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, and my personal favorite, WordPress with the WooCommerce plugin.

With this approach, you can build your brand. However, your biggest challenge would be driving traffic to your website.

If you already have a substantial following on social media, directing them to your page becomes more accessible.

However, if you’re starting from scratch, consider building a social media presence by sharing your work, investing in paid advertising through Google, TikTok, or Facebook ads, collaborating with influencers and fellow artists, or joining art communities and forums to promote your creations.

Conclusion

Selling your AI digital art can be an exciting endeavor that offers both creative fulfillment and financial reward.

There are several places you can explore to connect with potential buyers who have an interest in AI-generated art.

One option is to explore different marketplaces, stock image sites, or freelance platforms where you can show and sell your artwork.

Additionally, creating your own website can also be a great way to attract buyers who appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of AI-generated art.
