Football Games Versus Highways:
Where Tailgating is Welcomed

I was inspired to read Nam Tran’s “I Loathe Tailgaters! Why Must People Tailgate? essay.
I wanted to add more than a kicker headline reminding readers: “Tailgating Allowed at Football Games.”
Tailgating football fans are a welcome alternative to road-rage drivers.
Those pre-game party people are not in a hurry. Some may have been too slow in buying their tickets. Instead, the partyers are calm and happy. Their only worry maybe if their home team favorite doesn’t win.
The only kind of wieners at a football tailgate will be hot dogs on a grill. A wiener on the road means a honking driver waving his middle finger at you.
Relax and rejoice with these tailgaters. This sure beats the crazy motorist who wanted to pull into your backseat, right?
But don’t think that the tailgating lasts forever for this crowd. Despite the fun, bumper-to-bumper traffic and bullying drivers may become the main events in the post-game panic.
On second thought, football fans should go into overtime. Keep the party going. Let those tailgaters speed away. Then, drive home in blissful safety.
