Where Should Sex Education Begin?

Sex Education should begin at home. Schools should re-enforce what was taught by the parents.

Reading: Shame on You, Florida Politicians

An Acrostic Poem: LGBTQ by J.A.Gilgan

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — https://www.kcra.com/article/dont-say-gay-bill-signed-florida-desantis/39563305#

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Monday that forbids instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, a policy that has drawn intense national scrutiny from critics who argue it marginalizes LGBTQ people.

As a mother and grandmother, I believe that Sex Education should begin at home. Schools should re-enforce what was taught by the parents.

In my culture, no one talked to us about Sex. I never saw my mother kiss or even hug my father. In the sixth grade in primary school, I was eleven years old when I heard my classmates whispering about a red mess on the back of one of our classmate’s uniforms.

Our class teacher, Mrs. Henry, took her away. After she returned with Claudette wearing a new clean uniform, all of the boys were removed from the classroom. Then she educates all girls about the Female Reproductive System and Menstruation. That was my first knowledge of my body’s changes as I grew into adolescence.

Children know more about sex now than twenty years ago. It’s everywhere and in almost everything.

I don’t live in Florida, and our schools in Jamaica don’t experience, accommodate or tolerate gender issues. But it’s my responsibility to educate my children on all things sexually. Our world changes daily, and sex and gender change too. We prepare our children for life in every way, except sexually. They need to know their world sexually too. Many won’t accept it and don’t want to talk about it, but children should know about our world and what to expect, especially in schools with different beliefs, religions, thinking, cultures, etc.

In Home Economic class in high school, we had a practical one week and a theory the other. i.e., That means we learn to cook or bake something every other week. The blank week we just took notes. That’s where I know how to cook and bake.

Sex Education isn’t like Home Economic class. I could go to college to learn how to prepare the best meals.

I don’t want a male giving my daughter practical and theory on sex education. It’s my job and responsibility. Or a female was doing the same for my son.

Are there colleges for sex education with practical and theory?

In today’s limitless internet world, where nothing is hidden from anyone, not even the children, parents should make it their responsibility to be the first ones to educate their children on sex. The human body experience lots of changes as we grow. Parents know all of them. They have been through it.

Don’t wait on the School and teachers to teach your children about their bodies and the changes that they will face.

When countries are at war, they rely a lot on Intelligence to provide them with vital information that will allow them to make the best decision that will save lives.

If our children are aware of their bodies and their changes, they will be able to make better decisions. If parents inform them about the changes they will experience and help prepare them when the time comes; probably our teenage pregnancy rate wouldn’t be so high. Sexual Transmitted Infections probably would go down. Sexual frustration and gender issues would be easier to handle by children. I am the intelligence my children will need to learn more about their bodies and how to respond and listen to positively.

Parents have insider information through their own experience and that of others that will provide their children with everything they need to make better decisions about Sex.

Sexual ignorance is costly. It shouldn’t be for children.
