Tikku’s stories
Where On Earth is the Earth?
Children’s Story- Fiction
Tikku was in his backyard when he heard the doorbell ring, “Oh, that must be the postman delivering a packet”, he thought.
Recently his mum had been ordering much stuff online, they were getting most of their groceries delivered as well.
Nothing new, he kept playing.
He had been running around after a yellow butterfly, trying to talk to it about a trip he wanted to make with it, when mum called him in.
“Tikku! See what we have here, a new book for you, solar system!”
Tikku had recently learnt about the planets which went around the sun, and he had been learning their names. His dad had shown him many stars the other night explaining that some stars were actually planets. And some planets, he said, were no more planets. Like Pluto!
And for some reason, mum had shushed dad.
Mum had then explained about the difference between stars and planets. Stars were the shiny ones that didn’t move, and the planets, like our earth went around their favourite star. They had light, and shone like stars in the dark, as they borrowed its light!!
Tikku loved knowing about the planets, and their favourite star, the sun, the biggest and the brightest star, around which the eight planets moved.
And the moon which moved around the earth.
Mum had said she would order him a book about the solar system.
He ran inside all excited!
The book was actually quite exciting as it had beautiful colours and if you pressed at the right place, like on one of the planets, the voice said its name.
He kept pressing and repeating after the voice, saying the names. He could easily say Mars, Venus, Earth, Jupiter and Uranus, but had difficulty pronouncing Mercury, Saturn and Neptune.
His mum had to go and start preparing lunch, so she said to Tikku, “Why don't you make some circles on paper and colour them like planets”.
Tikku liked the idea of drawing the planets and he ran to his room to get some paper and pencils.
And that's the time when the yellow butterfly flew in. Fluttering its wings around Tikku, as if giving him a signal, it then flew out of the window.
“Wait, wait, I’m coming”, and quickly Tikku jumped out of the window, and lo behold, instead of falling outside, he started to fly behind the butterfly!!
The butterfly kept going higher and higher, with Tikku following, when suddenly they hit the clouds.
“Ahhhh!” Tikku cried with excitement as they entered the soft marshmallow clouds, and going through the pink clouds, they reached the very high skies, so high, that they could see the planets.
The planets were going round and round the bright sun.
So bright that Tikku couldn’t look at it, but he could see the planets, clearly.
So, he started to count, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, … and one, two, three, four…. he counted again, the number of the planets should be eight, but each time it was seven.
Tikku spoke the name of each planet loudly, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupitar, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus!
Still seven! Tikku started to wonder, “Where on earth has the 8th planet gone!”
He must have been wondering loudly, as the butterfly turned around, and fluttering its wings, it shouted, “Tikku! Look down!”
“See, what’s that you’re standing on?”
Tikku looked down, and picked up one of his feet, and then trying to pick up the other one, he fell down.
He wasn't in the clouds anymore, as he hit the earth!
“Oh, I was standing on the earth all this time?” He felt a bit embarrassed, and said loudly, “How come, I couldn’t see it?”
He was actually in his room, on the floor.
“Because you were on it”! The butterfly laughed and flew away!
“Oh boyee, I found all of them”! And at that very moment, he heard his mum calling him, “Tikku, Tikku, lunch time!” and he got up from the floor and ran to the kitchen.
He wanted to tell his mum all about his trip to the solar system!
Natural elements always fascinate us. Tikku of course is learning about his environment, and beyond. In this story, I have used the Nature’s prompt from Ravyne Hawke’s list of prompts for the week 31st July to 6th August.
- Nature Prompt #1 — nature’s fantastic and forceful power (volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes, cyclones, etc.)
Thanks editors of Promptly Written.
