Where I’m From

The here, the now, today

British Columbia, Canada — author’s pic

Belly full of watermelon slices, far above my allotted sugar intake, I’m marveling once more at the glory of the sky, the panorama laid out in front of me, creation’s gift to a belly full of watermelon.

I’ve written on this prompt far too many times, so today I’ve decided I’ll just repaint the sky. The hues of white and blue intertwining, refusing to create shapes for my entertainment, part like curtains, allowing birds to meander through, float graciously, or rush noisily toward a forest or another.

Some clouds, more playful, have thrown themselves as ladders into the two lakes I can see and are swiftly changing into keyboards, playing notes, most probably not random for those eyes that can see. I’d need my son to translate the music sheet of the clouds, maybe play it for me.

The sun has come out wholly and clouds are making room, lazily, annoyed, for their glory is about to dissipate into thin air.

“Bye for now,” I wink at a little one left behind, “come on, hurry along, your family is moving away.”

I ready my pillows on the balcony to be warmed up by the sun, and I’m greedily anticipating my lunch savored whilst sunbathing on the comfy couch.

I am from here. Now, today, these days. And I pray for many more days like this one, to come, to exist, for the universe to allow my life to continue under this sky of wonder, in this place so miraculous as far as the eye can see.

For those who can only greet my landscape with their mind’s eye, it was there and only there for me too, four decades or so.
