Where Have My Statistics Gone?

From hero to zero in the bat of an eye

There's an old saying that you can prove almost anything with statistics. As far as my Medium statistics are concerned the figures quoted below can only prove one or more of four things.

  1. I have gone from being quite a good writer to totally crap.
  2. There is a normal seasonal drop at this time of year.
  3. Medium have introduced changes to algorithms.
  4. I am posting a lot less material.

Whatever the reason, comparing September/October 2020 to Jan/Jan 2021, the stark reality is as follows:

Views down from a high of 9305 to 1571.

Reads down from a high of 7256 to 926.

Fans down from a high of 905 to 416.

Daily reads down from 965 to less than 100.

It is not lost on me that there is a direct correlation between the fall in statistics and my monthly pay cheque, which is about half of what it normally is. As for the reason/s for the drops (1-4 above) I can only say the following;

1. I don't accept. 2. I don't know since I haven't yet completed a full calendar year. 3. I don't fully understand what changes Medium have made. 4. I have posted a little less, but not that much.

I would be interested to know how much other peoples statistics have changed.

I can change only two of the above possibilities, the quality and the number of my submissions. But before I do that I'd be interested to know that a typical seasonal drop or Medium changes are not the cause of the loss.
