Where Fires Go To Die

A fit of poetic fever

The heat of the horizon Blinded me from the truth Stoking false flames And imprinting poisoned wisdom

All the flesh of my feet Melted at the altar Of nightmares that were once dreams Doomed to the ashes of its own demise

Higher and higher the temperatures climb Exhausting fumes that choke and tease A fate that feels inevitable Irresistible to the embers in its wake

Even still I go on Crawling on my hands and knees My lungs full of debris And my eyes stinging from smolders

A second of ignition Now a lifetime of combustion However the incendiary fuel Of my resolve is far greater

Reaching the fuse I rise Placing my boot on its kindling Kinetic contact of attack As I writhe to smother What tries to burn me down

In an instant And with a whimper The hot friction And wild inferno

Ceases.

All that is left Is a conflagration dwindling By my conquering footsteps Walking on the scorches of a new land
