WALKING ROUTE 66

When You Realize There Will Be Days Like These

Life goes on, tomorrow is another day.

© Rasheed Hooda

Life on the road is not adventure and excitement all the time.

It was a dull day by those measures.

I only traveled six miles, though I walked an additional six miles or so doing necessary things.

I had bought a bicycle pump from Walmart before leaving Chicago. The air pump was useless for the front tire; I needed to return it. The nearest Walmart was two miles off the path.

I also needed to do the laundry, a time consuming but necessary chore.

By the time I got done with all of that, it was time for lunch. Chilli and Frosty at Wendy’s, that’s what I had. Lots of protein, salt, and sugar.

Meat and beans provided protein for sustenance, the crackers gave me salt to replace what lose in sweat and tears, and the Frosty pumped me up sugar for all the calories I burn running up and down the hills in the sun.

Never a dull day, even if it’s not filled with adventure or generous people.

I walked the six miles to Wildwood, where they had a beautiful outdoor mall with stores of all kinds, including an Anytime Fitness. I got there by sundown and decided to rest for a while, and grab a bite to eat. I had learned my lesson the night before. I checked the traffic pattern on Google for this gym and went in at 10 PM. There was nobody in the gym, and all the yoga mats were available to make a comfy bed.

As I think back and ponder.

Life has its ups and downs, and that is the beauty of it. If everything remains the same, life becomes pretty boring. The most boring job in my life was the only office job I ever held.

I also learned not to take things for granted when they’re available to you. They may not always be there when you expect it.

Stay blessed and be happy, my friends.

Day 29: Regrouping (Original blog post)

Just for fun.
