Self-Confidence
When You Look In The Mirror Are You Happy With What You See?
Do you like the reflection you see? Are you happy and proud to know that individual?
Think of the famous line from Snow White
“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?”
We may not ask this question but who has not looked in the mirror and felt frustrated with the shape of our nose, those pesky freckles, the pimples that pop up with dependable regularly, or some other physical characteristic that we don’t find pleasing.
Why do we use makeup? Is it our attempt to conceal or minimize the physical imperfections we perceive? What about the air-brushing of photos? What about Photoshop or other means of digital alteration?
These all represent our desire to boost our self-confidence by appearing in what we perceive to be the most flattering way.
For much of the population, the use of these strategies is normal and harmless. If using them boosts your self-confidence, then go for it, no questions asked.
The real question is not about the physical image you see staring back at you,, but about the inner image of who you are as you view your reflection in the mirror.
- Do you know this person?
- Do you like this person?
- Do you respect this person?
- What do you admire about this person?
- What disappoints you about this person?
- What would you like for this person to change?
- How would you perceive that as an improvement?
- What are you willing to do about it?
These questions are of far greater importance than the pimple on your chin.
Yet which do you focus on more?
Which reflection will have a greater impact on the substance of your life and on your future?
Perhaps we could rewrite that famous quote to say
Mirror, mirror on the wall, show me who I can become to be my all?
I have written a book, The 7 Pillars of Happy & Successful Life will help you find answers about who you are and who you want to become.
Each of us carries the potential for greatness. It is hard-wired into our DNA. Your potential for greatness will differ from my potential for greatness because we are unique individuals.
Our challenge is to acknowledge the reflection of who we are today and embrace all the potentials of tomorrow, and then create a pathway to becoming the person we know we would be… the potential is there… our choice is to ignore it or embrace it.
I for one choose to embrace it. Join with me on that journey.
