2 Minute Motivation

When you don’t feel like writing, write about don’t feeling about writing.

Keep going

Here I am in front of my computer. Since the pandemic, I have less work to do, less traveling, more staying at home.

My plan in 2020 is to get into writing. I loved it in school and at university; making notes, writing stories, papers, or the master thesis — I loved it. Between graduating and 2020, I lost it a bit, as writing for business — mostly mails and contracts — is something different.

2020 — the pandemic gave me the freedom to write again, and Medium is a perfect platform to get started.

So here I am today. My mind is blank. It has a whiteout. A lot of chit-chatter going on, but focusing on a single topic is impossible. My monkey mind wants to play. Why?

No sleep for no reason, tired, exhausted. No idea where it is coming from.

The best idea so far for an article:

When I don’t fell like writing, at least I can write about not feeling about writing.

It might not result in the best story; most likely, nobody will read it. But that’s not the point. Sitting here and ranting about not knowing what to write — in written form.

It is writing. Sometimes it is just about keeping the writing habit alive, putting a useless piece of content together that nobody will read. Just honing the skill and hitting this publish button to fight and stand tall against the spirit of the fear of criticism.

It keeps the habit flowing and prepares for the good days. Surviving the bad days is sometimes the only thing to do. But at least — it is one piece of content created. At least I keep the habit going.

And this is what you need to do when you don't feel like doing what you love.

  • Acknowledge the bad day.
  • Embrace it.
  • Find Joy in misery.
  • And do a little bit of what you love doing during your good days.

Just a little bit, take one small baby step.

Whatever it is that you love, do only 5 minutes of it. Just a bit. Science says that such Atomic habits are what ultimately make the huge difference between failing and succeeding.

Is your goal running? Start with lacing up the shoes and taking just a small step outside. You can stop anytime. Take another step. And another. And soon, you have completed a run.

Or just a short piece of written content…

Since 1999 I am an executive, advisor, and coach for companies in various industries. I am specialized in Corporate Development and Finance, from seed rounds to IPO level, and focused on life science since 2006.
