When You Are Unable To Resolve Something Through Trying And Praying — Leave The Decision To God As God Always Decides Better For His Followers:

Tawakkal or God Reliance is a stage of religion and a state of progress of the Believers — Rather it is the highest state of those who are near Allah. The knowledge about God's reliance is very subtle and the cause of it is that if one looks at the causes and ingredients of an action, he sets up a partnership with Allah.

In other words, if a man believes that anything has power over the actions of a man, he can’t be counted as a true monotheist. On the other hand, if the intermediary causes are deducted, it is casting aspersion on the Prophet’s ways and dishonour on Shariah.

If one disbelieves the causes of action there is a misuse of intellect and as such one is drowned in the abyss of ignorance, so the real meaning of God-reliance is very subtle. The meaning of God's reliance is intellect Shariah and Tauhid, the intermingling of three elements in a proportionate manner.

Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah(saw) would say, “O Allah, I have surrendered to you and I have Faith in you. I trust in you and I have turned to you. I have contested my opponents For your sake. O Allah, I seek refuge in your power From going astray, For there is no God but you. You are the Living who never dies, while the Jinn and humans die.”(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6948)

When you finally decide to go ahead and do what has to be done, then that is the time when you do not simply (place your) trust in your reason, opinion, plans or preparedness but, instead, you should place your trust in Allah alone, For all these considered plans are in the direct control of the supreme Planner of all affairs and matters.

With this in view, the less is said about human beings and their plans is better. Man himself is witness to the Futility of his plans in the thousands of events in his lifetime.

And by the Mercy of Allah, you dealt with them gently. And had you been severe and harsh-hearted, they would have broken away From about you; so pass over (their Faults), and ask (Allah’s) Forgiveness For them; and consult them in the affairs. Then when you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah, certainly, Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).(Surah At-Imraan-3:159).

The statement, “then when you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allah, certainly, Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).” also clarifies that placing one’s trust in Allah does not mean that the efforts to provide means and make plans should be abandoned.

The Fact is that placing one’s trust in Allah while leaving off means near at hand is contrary to the blessed practice of prophets, and against the teachings of the Holy Qur’an.

However, if one sits idle dreaming about distant means and irrelevant concerns, or if one relies solely on means and plans as effective agents and ignores the Prime Causer of means and the Planner-par-Excellence of all affairs and plans, then this would certainly be against tawakkul, the placing of trust in Allah.

Levels Of Tawakkul:

Tawakkul in Allah has many levels. It is necessary For the perfection of a Muslim’s Faith, that they seek to reach the highest level of Tawakkul.

If we have to describe the First level of Tawakkul it could be Tawhid which is the basis For Tawakkul. We have to believe that Allah Almighty is the Best Sustainer and He is All-Knowing, He is All-Capable and sufficient to rely on. All things could happen or occur only with His Will and Instructions.

The Second level is to believe that every matter has a cause or a means. Some people give up utilizing these means due to their ignorance and think that this is reliance on Allah(swt). They wait for Allah (swt) to send down their provisions, Feed them and take care of their concerns and affairs while they do nothing.

We should not be complacent or inactive; we should do everything available to us to reach our goals. We have to believe in Allah but with that, we have to do something by ourselves to live our lives.

The Third level is to remain firm in relying on Allah alone. Indeed, a person’s reliance on Allah cannot be Fulfilled until one relies on Him alone.

The Fourth level is to depend on Allah wholeheartedly and Feel tranquillity when doing so, to the extent that one does not feel confused about their provision.

The Highest Level of Tawakkul, towards which we should all seek, of course, is to realize that the element of reliance on Allah is to trust all matters to Him voluntarily, without Feeling.

So, the point is that — when a person is not successful in any of his work despite his efforts, he should put his Trust in Allah(swt) and never be disappointed. A Muslim always has hope in his Lord and is content with the Lord's pleasure because there is goodness in every decision of God.

May Allah(swt) help us in all difficult situations and keep us Firm on the straight path. (Ameen).
