When You Are Feeling Stuck, Think How Far You’ve Come

Even the smallest progress shows that you are moving in the right direction

If you are slightly like I am, then patience is probably not your strongest quality either. Slow progress and lack of visible results may easily drive people crazy. The truth is many good things don’t happen as quickly as we’d like them to.

Society pushes us for quick results and no one wants to wait. It screams from every corner “Lose extra weight overnight!”, “Make your first million in a week!”, “Get things done 10 times faster!” and makes us believe that things can happen instantly. As the results, when we don’t see quick progress we start doubting ourselves and our abilities. Feeling the pressure from the outside world doesn’t help to get to the desired destination any faster and only complicates the process more.

Slow progress is better than no progress at all.

You might not have reached your goal today and you might not do it tomorrow, but if you are feeling like you are not moving forward take a moment to look back and see how far you’ve come already. Every smallest step brings you closer to your goals and the key is to keep moving forward, day by day, step by step.

What people see as a big success is a result of consistency and taking action over time. What people don’t see is all the challenges, self-doubt, roadblocks, hesitation, costs that brings one closer to their goal. When you are experiencing all that yourself it is easy to get discouraged and focus on how far you are from accomplishing your goals rather than what you’ve already achieved.

No matter what you are working on — a novel, a business, personal growth or anything else, you are doing it at your own pace and by your own rules. Take a moment to celebrate small milestones that would show the results of your efforts and keep moving forward. One day when you reach your goals and look back you’ll see all that it took to get there and you’ll be happy you didn’t stop half-way.
