When Working Out Becomes Your Routine, Discipline Becomes Your Nature
Working out regularly can turn you into an all around better person
One of the core rituals practiced by most of the successful people is exercising. Exercising is like taking a magical pill for your brain and if there could be a drug that can do to your body everything that an exercise can, it can be the most valuable pharmaceutical ever developed.
Exercising is a keystone habit, that’s why anyone willing to develop self-discipline regularly goes to the gym or does some form of exercise.
We all know the physical benefits of exercise, you look better, lose weight, get lean, gain muscle and in general terms, you look fit. But the roots of exercising goes deep beyond that.
You see, most people who exercise regularly are happier, more motivated, and less depressed. And that’s why exercise has been described as the miracle drug and is often prescribed as a treatment for depression, insomnia, memory loss, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson’s disease.
When you start to exercise, especially for the first time or after a long break, you will feel more energetic and aware. Because the increase in your heart rate means an increase in the overall flow of oxygen to the brain. This releases a special brain cell called dopamine, which is responsible for motivation.
If you've ever felt tired or lazy and don’t feel like doing anything, that’s probably because you’re experiencing a dopamine deficit. Dopamine is responsible for our motivation and happiness and it’s responsible for the feeling of satisfaction when we accomplish something, it makes us want to do things and it assures us that the thing was worth doing.
So, if you are suffering from dopamine deficiency, you may have a hard time getting things done because you aren’t getting enough sense of accomplishment to justify doing them. But every time you exercise you instantly increase the amount of dopamine in your blood and instead of feeling tired and exhausted you suddenly feel motivated and energized.
Whenever we exercise, new brain cells are developed which results in improved learning and memory. Moreover, whenever we exercise, a hormone named Endorphin a.k.a “The Feel Good” hormone is released which counters any stress we might be feeling and so whenever they’re released into your body, your mood is uplifted and you get a sense of happiness.
Hence, when you exercise regularly, your body gets a regular supply of dopamine and endorphins that can help you stay charged and motivated, and tackle your day very easily.
Better sleep is another positive effect of exercise on your brain. The path to better sleep and reduced insomnia through exercise cannot be traced with precision. However, restlessness and sleep are usually caused by depression and anxiety.
Exercise serves to reduce depressive symptoms and anxiety through the release of endorphins and dopamine. These have the effect of reversing the symptoms of insomnia, so you should sleep better. Besides, when you train right before bed, the drop in temperature you feel after exercise can help you fall asleep.
Also exercising in the afternoon or early evenings can result in better sleep as well. Our bodies run on a biological clock called the circadian rhythm. Since insomnia is caused by a distorted circadian rhythm, exercise can help repair our body clock, which also leads to better sleep.
By exercising, even without seeing physical results at the beginning, you get a better feeling of yourself. By deciding to be healthier and proactively trying to stay fit and in shape, you become proud and feel good about yourself, which in turn leads to a boost in confidence.
Ultimately, when physical changes are visible, your confidence explodes! and in fact, some people have used exercising to change their life and their mindset about life in general.
Exercise is therefore clearly good for our physical and mental health. If you only exercise regularly for three hours a week, you are likely to live longer than usual, and that longer life will likely be happier and more fulfilling.
