The pandemic is still going on

It doesn’t seem like that long ago that life was normal. There was no pandemic causing havoc with COVID cases and record numbers of deaths. No coronavirus statistics were dominating the daily news. It has been a year since the first COVID deaths came to the United States.

The past year has been something else. No one could have anticipated the drastic changes that came. There was a shortage of toilet paper and sanitizing supplies. People were told to wash their hands often and keep everything clean. Coughing into a sleeve was recommended. Self-isolation and avoiding crowds became the norm. Those were only the first changes that came to life as we knew it.

Going to a restaurant or a movie on the spur of the moment was no longer possible. Sporting events and live theater performances were a thing of the past. Some events are coming back, but life is not normal yet.

With the wearing of masks and social distancing becoming so important in helping to stop the spread of COVID and the pandemic, those two changes to life may be around for some time. Washing hands often and sanitizing should be recommended practices for everyone at any time.

The vaccines are considered as the safety feature which will stop the pandemic from continuing far into the future. Although it may be a year before things get back to a semblance of normal, there are changes that are coming to bring some normalcy back to daily living. It will be a welcome relief when things return to normal.

We need to be patient and try to follow the science. We should listen to the medical experts and government officials who are trying to keep us safe.
