When the Scientists Experimented inside The Lab. They Created a Premise for A Science Fiction Novel

Mutant hamsters from Hell

I see it in my mind’s eye, one of the hamsters escaped from its cage. It freed the other hamsters, It had to kill a few to assert its dominance. The free and angry hamsters terrorized the lab staff. After escaping from the building, they tear through the city mauling stray cats and dogs and hurting humans.

Scientists at Georgia State University made the scenario closer to reality. They removed a hormone from the hamsters hoping to make them more cooperative. (here)

Can you say, “ Williard?”

It had the opposite effect. The procedure turned the once placid rodents into wild and vicious rodents from hell. Lead researcher Elliot Albers said, “ We don’t understand this system as well as we thought we did.”

“Well, no shit.” Why are they pursuing this line of research, to begin with? They might have the best of intentions, but I can see a lot of abuse coming from this.

“ We don’t understand this system as well as we thought we did”

It’s a slippery slope. from controlling aggression in animals to creating placid humans. Who cooperates with Authority. I can see the military applications as well.

Governments would be able to create Berserkers. Soldiers who would follow orders regardless of morals or International Law. I believe that some things that scientists should not mess with.

The Tower of Babel comes to mind

When humans put their minds together they can do amazing things. The one thing they should do more often is to consider the implications of what they are doing.

Science is amazing. Life would be different if we did not have the advances that scientists have led the way to advance. Scientists should be responsible. They should not pursue an area of research without considering the consequences.
