PHOTO-A-DAY CHALLENGE

When the Moon Shines Bright at Night

Week 161 of the photographic documentary of my daily life

What a week it has been. September began with a bang. Sunshine and blue skies. Not too hot but pleasantly warm. Views up to the Alps. Here we come. What a golden fall it will be. I hope.

This week, I tried to get some high-quality photographs at night but mostly forgot to take a picture for the day until the sun was gone. So there’s some moon shots and starry nights.

Wednesday was the last day of August and the month ended the way he began. Cloudy. I was sitting outside with colleagues and friends late after work when the moon appeared behind a layer of clouds.

It was somewhat magical, somewhat eerie.

August carried some clouds into September but this is only how the skies looked in the morning. Once the rainbow appeared on the horizon, I knew it was going to be a great day. The clouds soon disappeared and the sun began to shine.

That rainbow was so special. It was so low and flat above the ground. Unusual but beautiful.

Saturday was a busy day. The night was cold and dew had been collected on the meadow. I captured a sunrise shot of drops of water hanging on the blades of grass.

This was the day I did my 3000th jump. Quite a number to celebrate. And skydivers have traditions for everything. I got three pies thrown into my face. But I was happy. And a little proud. I might talk about this event in a different post when I have time. Got some pictures, too.

Even the moon was in a celebratory mood. Look at the bright yellow moon rise.

While we were supposed to have a busy Sunday, our plane had performance issues, and we stopped flying on Saturday afternoon. We didn’t get a replacement on such short notice and had a Sunday off instead.

I know, the season was already weak due to the weather, but what does it help if I complain? Things happen. So off I went into my hammock in the forest.

My happy place. Where I relax, read and write while listening to the birds. I was trying to capture this busy one for a while as he was jumping from one branch to another.

Monday night was such a peaceful, quiet night in the trailer park. The air was warm, the skies clear and filled with stars. I grabbed my camera and walked outside to take a few shots.

The sky was busy. Lots of airlines were zooming across the night sky. And the Milky Way was in the middle of everything. Such a beauty. Captured in Germany.

Tuesday was another off day, even though the sun was shining, but the winds were too strong for us to take our students to the skies. So I spent a few more hours in my hammock.

Wednesday, back at work, but I didn’t get around to take a picture, so I snapped this shot of the lanterns on my way to the bathroom. A friend put up these lampions a few months ago, and they just made our trailer park look so much prettier. Especially at night time.
