When the Hummingbird Flies
Odd things I appreciate

I appreciate the odd things, that people overlook
If my refrigerator door stays closed, and everything inside remains cold
When sunflowers magically appear on the sands
Or if it’s not windy outside, and the palm fronds don’t break off
When I hear the sounds of silence, and not the car doors slamming
Or if my red seedless grapes are plump and juicy, and not too tough to chew
When the smell of the ocean lingers in my mind, even miles away
If I’m lucky to see a hummingbird fly longer than two seconds
Or enough pillows on the bed, one for my head, and the other under my arm
If my TV remote works and I don’t need to search for triple-A batteries
When there’s plenty of gas in the tank, so I can drive to work and back
Or if my eyes are clear, nose unclogged, and the pollen count is low
I’m grateful for the small things, when the bell on my bike rings, and I don’t have to root in the drawer for my lost car keys.
