When the Cycles Turned

Change suddenly happened

Just when things could not get any worse things started getting better. Much better. Progress was made on all fronts. People began working together and the overall mood suddenly became joyful. It was a beautiful thing to watch.

For years afterward scholars and pundits tried to analyze this tipping point. When exactly did it occur? What caused it? It was not brought about by any action on the part of leaders. How the collective change in all the people happened simultaneously could not be understood.

Most of the people did not care how or why it happened. They were just thankful that it did and they remained focused on a future that suddenly seemed so hopeful. There was obviously no going back to old ways.

There were a few scientists who looked back at this moment of change and saw how it fit into larger cyclic patterns and realized how inevitable it was. Humans born after the big change never experienced the omnipresent conflict of the times before the change. To them it was a dark distant past and they could only wonder how and why people lived like that.

But those scientists also realized that those cyclic patterns continued into the future and that there would come a time when people would again experience the conflict and pain of negative parts of those cycles. How to prevent that became the pressing conundrum. Were humans helplessly tied into the trajectory of those cycles? Or was there a way to change those cycles and create new ones? Or would the knowledge of those cycles allow humans to navigate the cycles without succumbing to the energies of the downturns?

Most people did not care much about the big picture of those cycles. There was too much joy to be had in the NOW they now found themselves in. There was a prevailing ‘make hay while the sun shines’ attitude. They were too busy blossoming. It was indeed a beautiful thing to witness.
