When Medium, When?

Medium Partner Program

It’s been one heck of a ride since I joined Medium. From struggling for 100 followers to struggling for great ideas, the highs and the lows always make it an adventurous ride. I’m a first-year college student and besides my studies, I need to write and earn to live through the 3 years of my college. The question that arises is why to ask from Medium when I can earn through my writing from freelancing opportunities or working as an intern for the companies?

It’s a war out there. Clients aren’t exactly lining up to offer their work to anyone. An unpaid internship isn’t the right way to go. I might as well keep writing for free without complaining. I love writing but I got to earn to work more towards my goals.

A Huge Market

This platform is attracting a lot of writers from India. While its reach has grown, it has also lost potential writers due to their unavailability in India. More than six months have passed with hopes of earning revenue, but still no results. After switching to Vocal Media, the problem with Stripe resurfaced. Plus, Medium has so much more reach than Vocal and I find it handy. If the problem persists for this year as well, I won’t be able to last long.

As a first-year college student, I am aware that I shouldn’t rely on one platform to cover all my expenses, but I expect to be able to handle some of them on my own. It isn’t just my problem. Brazil and Pakistan, for example, are eagerly awaiting the Medium Partner Program’s launch, but WHEN will it happen? In the past, several content writers made a lot of money from Medium, but because the regulations changed and Stripe is now in beta, nobody is addressing this situation because there is nothing we can do but wait. All I want is for them to listen to what people want. I know the company isn’t entirely to blame. There is no way to know why Medium hasn’t taken the next steps, and I hope 2022 will be the year.

I just wanted to address the situation. I’m just a little bit disappointed in myself and the way things have been. But in the end, we all are MEDIUMITES or anything they call us xD. I’ll continue to write and find some freelancing opportunities. :) Have a nice day!
