When Letting Her Story Dominate is an Effort Towards Acceptance

What we can’t talk about has started to fade after 20 years of avoiding the topic. There was a flash fire first when I told the truth as I saw it, but our memories never quite matched and I didn’t understand then how keeping ourselves protected from what would force us to reconstruct our lives are a way of survival, just as shutting down allows a small window in the mind to open.

A sliver of light pushes through announcing itself quietly, as light does.
