When I Want an Excuse to Share Music, I Write a Parody

With heartfelt apologies to the Eurythmics for messing with Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)

Annie Lennox, OBE, is in my Top Five singer/songwriters for more reasons than her lyrical compositions and gutsy Scottish contralto voice.

She is a philanthropist and social activist for HIV/AIDS and its impact on women and children in Africa.

Her fourth solo album Songs of Mass Destruction released in 2007 (my favorite), features Sing, a collaboration between her and 23 other female artists.

The song raised money and awareness for the Treatment Action Campaign, a South African HIV/AIDS organisation.

Her third marriage in 2012 was to Dr Mitchell Besser, a South African obstetrician and gynaecologist who founded mothers2mothers, an organization that helps prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

The latest figures available (2018) show South Africa has the biggest HIV epidemic in the world, with 7.7 million people living with HIV. South Africa has the largest ART program in the world, but this pandemic has restricted access to clinics for patients.

A big thank you to Annie Lennox for her work in helping others across the globe and in my country.

Now to some music

I suggest you play the video and sing along!

Sleek schemes are hit or miss

Sleek schemes are hit or miss Who am I to disagree? I look at the world and what do I see Everybody’s punting for something

Dumb of them trying to use you Dumb of them such fools bemuse you too Dumb of them want to accuse you Thumbs down don’t like to be accused

Sleek schemes are hit or miss Who am I to disagree? I look at the world and what do I see Everybody’s hunting for something

Yo! You’re fed up, keep your heads up, movin’ on Rolled your bed up, movin’ on, keep your head up, groove in song Rolled your bed up, movin’ on, keep your head up, groove in song Yo! You’re fed up, prove them wrong, weep not, head up

Dumb of them trying to use you Dumb of them such fools bemuse you too Dumb of them want to accuse you Thumbs down don’t like to be accused

Sleek schemes are hit or miss Who am I to disagree? Can’t travel the world, banned, no overseas Everybody’s hunting for something

Vaccines are hit or miss Who am I to disagree? Can’t travel the world, banned, no overseas Everybody’s hunting for something

Sweet dreams oh to hug and kiss Come let’s fly finally free Unravel the world, ban all the elites Everybody’s hooking up, loving

Sweet dreams good times we miss Come let’s fly finally free Unravel the world, ban all the elites Everybody’s hooking up, loving

Let’s remove stigma wherever we find it — whether it be HIV/AIDS, mental illness, Covid-19, gender, race, religion— and replace it with love and compassion for all humanity!

Let music bind us as we Sing.

God Bless Africa!

And thank you for being here.
