When I Met With An Accident
My accident taught me some great lessons like an obedient teacher

I started my career as a Process Assistant in one of the multinational companies based out of India. As I grew more professional and wiser in the professional spectrum, I came across many people from different backgrounds that made me learn a lot in terms of leadership, accountability, delegation of work and standing true to myself.
In 2016, while working with EXL as Assistant Manager- Migrations, I met with a serious accident on Greater Noida Express Highway. My sacrum bone was broken from three sides, and I was bed-ridden for two months. My doctor told me that I will be affected by paralysis and wouldn’t be able to walk ever in my life again.
Listening to such remarks was hurtful because, in my entire life, I never met with an accident on my own. This was due to a cab driver who was drunk and hit the cab in the divider. I didn’t lose hope. My broken right leg taught me a lot more than they teach you in schools and colleges.
I started hopping on a walker in one month with the guidance and support of my parents. In two months, I learned to sleep straight and take a bath sitting on the chair. My world didn’t end because, before this accident, I was a fitness freak. I did gym for almost five years and this accident gave me a huge break from my fitness regime.
I kept going on because I realized thoughts in my mind were far stronger than my broken bones. In four months, I started walking with the help of a walker because carrying crutches everywhere wasn’t an easy task for me. I got up as a healthy and strong person in six months and rejoined my office.
My workstation was on the sixth floor, so I got access to a lift as I wasn’t allowed to carry the laptop on my back with such a severe injury. I left my full-time job because I did develop some serious issues with my leg later on, but I took my own time to heal my leg.
After three years since then, I have again rejoined the gym after completing 1.5 years of rigorous home workouts on my own. I did lose 7.5 kgs on my own and after getting approval from my doctor, I rejoined the gym with full spirit and positivity. I have been getting trained on my legs and now I run 3.5 kms in 25 mins.
My journey of life while going through hardships has allowed me to emerge as a stronger and wiser person rather than sitting at the same place as a victim. I know it’s in each of us and what we decide on we can achieve only when we are mentally strong. Life will always demand some tests to clear on our own and I am glad I came out of it alive and with strength.
