When I Knew
A poem about love blossoming
You asked me when I loved you When I first knew I cared You asked me what had happened That made my heart prepared
You questioned what had sparked love Gave me the nudge to see Which moment had released it Sent love’s birds flying free
I turned to you and smiled Knew you would not believe For it was nothing special That made the final weave
It wasn’t at a dinner Or dancing in the dark It wasn’t at a picnic While rain fell in the park
It wasn’t while out camping Traversing crooked trails It wasn’t at the movies Or during concert fails
The love I have grew slowly Snuck up from far behind A small seed grew and blossomed Quietly in my mind
The hint of love came later Though I was slow to learn Each second it grew stronger Until my heart would burn
The light shined at its brightest So bright I couldn’t deny The night that nothing happened While gazing at the sky
You’d run to me in panic Raccoons attacked the trash You clutched my arm for safety Love changed me in a flash
The blinder simply vanished New eyes looked into yours The waves of love compelling Bashed open bolted doors
That is my favorite moment While looking at the moon My arm held tight around you Our hearts then played in tune
I knew then how I loved you My heart forever yours Our souls were joined together To others closed their doors
Convinced in that brief moment One day you’d be my wife No time or space could cleave us I’d love you all my life
