When I Get to 150,000 Followers on Medium …

We All Have Dreams of Becoming a Top Writer One Day

When I get to 150,000 followers, people will be in awe that I chose to write to them personally. Once a week, I will select someone, watch their work, read their material, read their comments, and then comment to them and then, I will write to them and share a personal note with them.

Who are some of the most prolific writers on the site today? Tim Denning? Sinem Günel? Dr Mehmet Yildiz? Imagine if you received a personal letter from them — not one of those automatically generated letters that are supposed to make you think they are writing to you. A real, no joke, I’m going to write this person a real letter (or an email, in this case).

I received one of those from an online guru. Zulie Rane wrote me a letter. I was impressed because when I first started writing on Medium, she was one of the first people I reached out to through her YouTube channel. She never wrote back. She never even acknowledged my comment. I didn't give up the faith. Shortly thereafter, I wrote to her again. Again, with the same results. I may have tried one other time, but with little faith. Anyway, I kept it moving.

When you first start reading and writing on Medium, you are like a sponge, or at least, I was. I soaked up everything. But after a while, you eventually ignore and eliminate the white noise. So, I was quite surprised when one day, I asked her a question again and this time, she actually replied back personally.

Now, I understand that someone like Zulie Rane and many others of the big names on this platform have thousands of followers. I actually crossed that threshold myself. Yes, I have more than 1,820 followers (at the time I wrote this article).

If you have an active group, answering and responding to replies and emails can become daunting. But not for me. I love writing to people. I love interacting with my followers and with the people I follow.

So, I just wanted to tell you that while I am a long, long way off, one day, when I reach 150,000 followers, I will remember from whence I came and hope to be a beacon for new writers and those who would be happy to hear from someone who has been on the platform for a while. Today, I just reached the seven-month mark! lol
