When I Can’t Make It To Chicago For St. Patrick’s Day, I Show You Some Midwest Green Instead

Photography in the lens of green

Burnsville, Minnesota. Photo by Author.

My favorite color is green.

Green is renewal. It’s fresh, crisp.

Spring is also my favorite. Spring is the return of green.

Natural.

Then there’s the Green and Gold…

The Green Bay Packers, of course. And St. Patrick’s Day. Americans love St. Patrick’s Day, particularly, Chicagoans.

I have not made it to Chicago, my old city, for St. Patrick’s Day since 2019. But alas, I have plans to go in 2024.

I spent the entire 2022 stateside. Hiking, mostly. Which gave me the opportunity to bask in the glory of the “fly-over” states. States of the U.S. which some deem as undesirable.

I know differently.

And thankfully, so does my camera.

I’d like to share my green with you.

Follow me, to Wisconsin…

Now, Minnesota…

And heck, why not the Blue Ridge Mountains while we’re at it…

Most years, I do whatever I can to reunite with my pals in Chicago for St. Patrick’s Day. Chicago is also, surprisingly, part of the Midwest.

But lest we forget — if you’re in the States, witnessing Chicago on St. Patrick’s Day is crucial.

Chicago is known for St. Patrick’s Day. Savannah, Georgia is too.

Where else?

In Chicago, streets are closed off to traffic, catering to pedestrians. Beer is green, so is the Chicago River.

I have plans to visit Chicago March 17, 2024. But for now, all we have is memories.
