When Emotional Situations Have No Solution — Let It Out to Dry
Sometimes the solution lies in the wait.
“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.”
— Khalil Gibran.
What is strength? Is it the absence of fear, self-doubt, or pain? Or is it having all of this and still finding a way to survive?
Is it hiding your emotions and feeling them in silence? Or is it sharing it with one another and helping people heal?
It’s both or none, there cannot be a singular definition of what strength means to everyone.
So many times, our closest friends and family read our silence. They know we are struggling from within and yet we choose to stay mum. Not because we don’t want to share how we feel, but because we ourselves are trying to figure out and accept how we feel.
Hang It Out to Dry
But then there is only so much we can hide from others. I for one couldn’t hold my dam of emotions any longer when my mom asked me last night, ‘what’s wrong? What’s bothering you? You look tense and tired?
I just sat down and told her how I felt, a situation that had no answer but only a way to deal with it — patience.
So often we are dealing with situations that have no probable solution. These problems are emotional. It’s not like a financial transaction that deals with numbers and concrete solutions. Emotions are way too complex where the solution is sometimes invisible. It’s like walking through a dense forest hoping that the road will appear soon.
What do we do then? How do we keep walking?
My mom told me that when we go through the toughest emotional storms, it’s because there will be a time when everything will fall in place effortlessly. Everything will magically work out because of the turmoil of emotions that you are going through right now. Sometimes we just must let things be and surrender to the divine. When there is no solution in sight, you just let things out to dry. You don’t constantly think of a way out. You just sit with it.
We all have 24 hours to spend in a day. We choose to stay busy and divert our mind until there comes a moment when you must be with yourself. That’s when everything comes tumbling down. Where you cannot escape the tsunami of moments that you wish would have never come to an end.
When you are feeling this, feel it hard and let it wash over you. Tomorrow you will get one drop stronger and the next day another drop. Don’t ever think that you won’t overcome whatever it is that is eating you from within. Just don’t keep thinking about it and beating yourself up. Let it simmer and dry out.
Soon the upper layer of a healing skin will cover the wound and eventually new healing skin will mend that raw emotion. Don’t tell yourself that you’re weak. In fact, you are given the opportunity to deal with challenges and that should be an indication of the ocean of happiness that awaits you.
