When Dr. Mehmet makes a suggestion, you listen. You heed it. You do it.
He and Illumination plus Illumination-Curated have given me so much, that if he feels this is a good idea then I’m on it! It’s a very small way of repaying such unparalleled kindness.
It all started with Roz Warren. I had long since ‘archived’ Roz’s story on Muck Rack and had been meaning to get around to doing ‘it’. What’s it? Roz refers to it as her website. I think of it as a filing system. Neither of us is wrong.
As per Ms. Roz:
Once you set up a page, Muck Rack maintains it for you. They’ll automatically add your recent work to your Articles section. This happens quickly — often within an hour. They also automatically display your Twitter feed.
Muck Rack also has a nifty feature called Who Shared My Link that enables you to plug in the link to any story and see how often it’s been shared on social media. That’s how I learned, for instance, that this essay had been shared 2,543 times on Facebook.
You can sign up as a journalist — for free. Yep. Free. I don’t know about you but I personally and o-v-e-r scrolling through listing after listing after listing doing the old peck and hunt routine trying to locate one of my earlier articles. I’ve even tried the stats page which is better but I knew there had to be an easier way. Thanks to being in bed for Day Three of whatever it is that I have, I’ve had little brainpower but am bored with lying in bed. Meh, good a time as any.
There was a time that I embraced social media and tech. Not anymore. I fear that I am burned out. I learned DOS when it practically had to be self-taught. (Yes, I’m old. We’ve covered that. Move on.) Anyway, I was around during the days of Tripod where you could build a website with the drag and drop technique. It was so easy then compared to what we deal with nowadays. No, things have not gotten easier. Have you tried to create a profile page on here? I rest my case.
Muck Rack, according to their website:
The all-in-one PR software you’ve been waiting for
A centralized Public Relations Management (PRM) platform to help your team build media relationships, collaborate from anywhere, and measure success.
It sounds great but what’s truly great is just how easy it is to set up. I hate designing and building. I’ve been doing it for decades. I want things simply like looking at a non-complicated food menu and placing my order. Much Rack is just as easy.
You literally start at the top, fill in the blanks, work your way to the bottom, and taadaa! You’re up and running. Roz’s link to her story is above. Her Muck Rack profile is marvelous. (I still want to be her when I grow up!) But in the meantime, here’s what I managed to bang out in under an hour today.
I’ll be using it to refer people to Medium but also as a tool for me to use to quickly locate my past stories and articles. Try it out. It’s free and useful. Who would ask for more?
