When All Your Wishes Come True
You may want one more wish

We had finally gotten through the traffic jam and I hit the gas, weaving in and out of traffic. Emily’s voice cracked as she snapped at me over my aggressive driving. “I wish the hell you would slow down; I want to get there in one piece.”
“We are not missing this plane, dammit. We have been planning this trip for years. These tickets cost a fortune. The hotel will charge us for the night even if we are not there. Besides, we only have four days; I am not missing one of them.” I replied.
As we wheeled into the airport parking lot, she commanded, “Okay, grab the first parking spot you come to.”
Pointing to a spot between two oversized pickup trucks she shouts, “There. There’s one!”
“No, that one is no good. Both trucks are over the lines. I wish you would calm down.”
“There, how about this one?”
Pulling into the better spot, we unloaded our bags and raced to the terminal doorway. That’s when we saw the line at the airport security. It weaved endlessly through a long crowd control barrier. There wasn’t enough time to make it through in time.
“Damn, I wish we had Pre-check passes.”
I got the attention of a security agent who was checking tickets.
“Sir, can you help? We are late for our flight. The line is too long, we won’t make it.”
The agent checked our tickets and identification, then pulled us around the line and guided us through security.
“Thank you, sir. You have been a lifesaver,” I said.
As we sprinted to the gate, dodging the slow pokes, she exclaimed. “We’re gonna make it!”
Arriving at the gate in time to grab the last two seats on the crowded plane. We plopped down, out of breath, safe, and secure, as the flight attendant closed the doors.
A few minutes later we were airborne. Glancing outside the window I could see our hometown disappearing behind us. We did it. After years of promising each other, our wish for a romantic second honeymoon was coming true.
She reached across the aisle and took my hand. “Honey, we have had a wonderful life together,” she said. “You have made all my wishes come true. I am so happy to be able to spend the rest of my life with you.”
But something was wrong. The plane sputtered as it tried to gain altitude. It shook and bucked as if it were out of fuel. The cabin fell silent as the passengers all wondered what to do.
A frantic call came over the loudspeaker “Flight attendants, assume crash positions.”
I looked across the aisle at my beautiful wife, Emily. She had a tear in her eye and sadness on her face. All her wishes had come true.
“Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.”
