When a Bloodied, Contorted Woman’s Body Circulates On Facebook
The tragic case of Jennifer Alfonso

There was horror on social media when a gunned-down woman went viral.
One of the reporters on the case stated,
“One of the most shocking Facebook status updates ever. A woman collapsed in her kitchen, blood everywhere. Her bloodied body contorted in just the most vile way.”
The police got a visit from the killer himself.
The killer hadn’t called the police after emptying his gun on the woman.
He went straight for his phone camera, snapped a picture of her slumped, bloodied body, and posted it on Facebook.
Part of the caption read;
“Take care, Facebook people. You’ll see me in the news.”
Jennifer Was Twenty-Six
Jennifer Alfonso was a twenty-six-year-old woman from Miami, Florida.
She was happy and ever-smiling. She was also very friendly, very kind, and caring.
Jennifer had a ten-year-old daughter from a previous relationship that didn’t work out. She worked hard to provide a better life for her child.
She worked at a Denny’s restaurant in her local area. And Jennifer met Derek Medina whilst working at the restaurant.
Derek was a self-published author of many books and a boxer with a 25–0 record. He loved attention from the outside world.
Derek was an aspiring actor, but he wasn’t finding much success in Hollywood. So, like most do, he turned to social media to try to be famous.
Jennifer and Derek Loved the Supernatural
Jennifer and Derek bonded over their shared interest in the supernatural.
The two began dating and got married within a month.
Derek placed cameras all over their house, hoping they would catch something paranormal. The couple often visited haunted places and made recordings.
Meanwhile, the two had a volatile relationship filled with many fights.
In some instances, Derek threw out Jennifer’s belongings when he was angry. In other instances, Jennifer couldn’t control her emotions and punched Derek.
The physical and emotional turmoil was too much for the couple.
Derek filed for divorce.
Jennifer moved out of the house into an apartment. She picked up the pieces of her life and began doing well.
Then Derek reached out to her again.
Jennifer and Derek Got Married
Jennifer and Derek reconciled their differences and got married for the second time. But their relationship was still tumultuous.
Derek tried everything he could to pull Jennifer down. He insulted her and threatened her.
Derek heard that a man was hitting on Jennifer on one occasion. He told Jennifer that he was going to wait for the man outside with a gun.
Jennifer’s best friend, Daysi, didn’t support her relationship. Daysi warned Jennifer to stay away from Derek because Derek was going to kill her.
But Jennifer laughed it off.
On August 8th, 2013, Jennifer was fuming. She had asked Derek to wake her up, but he hadn’t. Jennifer was behind her schedule.
She yelled at Derek in their bedroom. This built up into a heated argument.
Jennifer then went downstairs to make pancakes for her daughter. Derek followed her a few minutes later.
Jennifer and Derek resumed their argument.
Jennifer began hitting Derek on the chest and his arm. Derek left the kitchen and made his way upstairs.
Derek returned to the kitchen, loaded gun in hand.
Jennifer reached for the drawer and pulled out a knife to defend herself. But Derek disarmed her.
Derek placed the knife back in the drawer.
Derek Fired All the Bullets in His Gun At Jennifer
Derek pointed his gun back at Jennifer and emptied it on her, each shot hitting Jennifer from the neck to her stomach.
The cameras in the house picked up gunpowder flying in the air from the shooting. Derek then left the kitchen and told Jennifer’s daughter to stay in her room.
He returned to the kitchen with a phone in his hand.
He didn’t call the police. He simply snapped pictures of his wife’s bloodied, contorted, bullet-riddled body.
Investigator: And what did you do once you took that photo?
Derek: Uploaded on Facebook.
Derek posted the pictures on Jennifer’s Facebook with the caption RIP. He then uploaded the pictures on his Facebook captioned,
“I’m going to prison or [will get a] death sentence for killing my wife. Love you guys. Miss you guys. Take care, Facebook people, you’ll see me in the news.
My wife was punching me, and I’m not going to stand anymore with the abuse, so I did what I did. I hope you understand me.”
The Internet Went Wild Because of The Photos
People on the internet couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw Derek’s posts.
The pictures went viral.
Jennifer’s best friend, Daysi, woke up to a whole bunch of messages and calls. Daysi felt a chill down his spine when he saw the photos.
He couldn’t believe that those were real pictures of Derek’s dead wife. He thought that Jennifer was playing some role-play from The Walking Dead with her husband.
Meanwhile, Derek had left the house and turned himself in.
Derek claimed that he had acted in self-defense after his wife attacked him. But it was hard to believe that a boxer with a 25–0 record felt threatened by his unarmed wife.
The surveillance footage from the cameras inside the house also told a different story.
Derek also stated that he took the pictures of Jennifer’s dead body and posted them so that her family would know.
The police learned that Jennifer’s ten-year-old daughter was still in the house with her dead mother’s body. And they rushed to the scene.
The authorities kicked the door open.
They found Jennifer’s body shot a total of eight times. Jennifer’s daughter was upstairs in her room.
The authorities placed a cloth over her head as they led her out of the house so that she wouldn’t see her mother’s gruesome state.
The Aftermath
Derek was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Medical examinations performed on Jennifer’s body showed that Derek fired the shots in a downward direction toward his wife.
The position that Jennifer was found in revealed that she was on her knees when she was shot.
Derek was also charged with child neglect, amongst other charges, because he killed Jennifer whilst her ten-year-old daughter was in the house.
The prosecution argued,
“He shot her not one time to get her off him, not twice to make her stop. Ladies and gentlemen, the evidence shows that he emptied the clip. Eight shots at Jennifer, causing twenty-one entry and exit wounds.
And what did he do next? He did what people do when they win. He told people about it, he took a picture of her, and he posted it on Facebook.”
Derek was found guilty of second-degree murder, amongst other charges.
He was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum sentence of twenty-five years.
Some people believe that Derek’s motive was fame. He wanted to show the world what he had done to finally get the attention he had been craving for years.
