How to gain followers

What’s Your Ratio Media-versonians?

Four “Rs” for Following

I will follow you wherever ever you shall go — Photo by Magda Ehlers from Pexels

Here are my numbers:

42% Following to Followed 24% Actually readers of those following

Thing is I want to join the 1k followers club. I get happy whenever I see 1k (+) followers next to a name. I want that for myself. As of the writing of this piece I’ve acquired 870 followers. I’m only 130 people shy of reaching my goal.

I’ve been strategic in selecting whom to follow using my four “Rs” system. Plus, I admit, I am trying to mess with the medium curation algorithm. I want to see new ideas and think about new things.

Read, Research, Reachout, Relax

  1. Read more. If I read your piece, liked it, clapped, and perhaps commented, I follow you. Normal-everyone does that. Then I look at who commented and follow those whom I don’t already follow. I figure we have like interests.
  2. Research a bit. If I read your piece, I look at who clapped for you and read their bios. If in your bio you mentioned Poetry, Philosophy, History, Life-hacks, Gardening, or Science, I follow hoping the algorithm brings me more interesting pieces.
  3. Reach out. When I write a piece I search my tags/topic and try to find an author who has a supporting or similar article to mine. I embed a link to their article giving a bit of a summary and always a dash of praise. I deeply believe when one rises we all rise. I celebrate and support the work of others. (I tried to find an article to share here- but none quite fit-sorry)
  4. Relax and let it happen. I don’t sweat the stats. I’m curious and like to crunch a number now and again but I am not obsessed.

LOOK! in the time it took to write this piece I gained another follower. One hundred and twenty-nine to go!!

A little music to bring a smile I hope.
