What’s Your Favorite Scary Movie?

A mini-love letter to one of my favorite movie genres

I have a passionate on-again/off-again relationship with the horror movie genre. When we’re solid, the genre shatters my expectations and we have a hell of a lot of fun along the way. But when we’re bad, we’re horrific.

Some of the best movie-going experiences I’ve had have been with horror. I saw Get Out for the first time in a sold-out theater. Once the climax hit, we were all screaming at the main character, banding together to ensure, through our guidance, that he’d make it through alive.

Being a part of that crowd was invigorating and reminded me why I’ve always loved going to the movie theater.

The worst thing that a horror movie can be isn’t bad — it’s boring. If I had a nickel for every horror movie I’ve turned off from sheer boredom, my wealth would rival Oprah’s.

But, I’ll never stop the hunt for my new favorite horror movie. I know the movie’s hiding quietly behind me, lurking, waiting for the right moment to pounce.

What’s your favorite scary movie? Recommend something for me to watch during the upcoming Halloweekend!
