What’s “Your” Definition of Success?
Dissatisfaction comes from not being clear about your definition of success.
We often use the term ‘Success’ to describe the achievement of a goal or objective. Different people have different definitions of success. The definition is as diverse as human faces. For some, success may be defined by financial wealth, while for others it may be defined by personal happiness or fulfillment. To some people, overachieving in certain arrears is naught if it is outside their definition of success. So, what’s your definition of success? Is it based on external factors such as money, status, or power? Or is it based on internal factors such as personal growth, happiness, or fulfillment?
One way to define success is to look at it as a progressive state or journey, rather than a destination. Success is not usually a fixed point that you reach and then stop. It’s a continuous process of growth and development. Most times you will need to “maintain” the success you have achieved. You set goals, work towards them, and learn from your experiences along the way. Another way to define success is to focus on what truly matters to you. What are your values, passions, and interests? What makes you happy and fulfilled? Align your goals with these things, you can create a sense of purpose and direction in your life.
Ultimately, success is a personal and subjective concept. At least we can all agree on that. It’s up to you to define what it means to you and to work towards achieving it. Keep in mind that success is not just about achieving external goals, but also about finding happiness, fulfillment, and meaning in your life.
