What’s the Greatest Fruit of Them All? Here are My Fab Five

These winners will have you running to the grocery instantly

We need fruit.

Often overlooked, they provide us with vitamins and minerals and have been known to protect against cancer, diabetes, and heart diseases.

Sadly, they often take a backseat to unhealthy snacks like chips, crackers, and the biggest nemesis, cavity-collecting candy.

I’m here to push nature’s candy and get you inspired. When you’re done reading this, my goal is for you to run — not walk — to the fruit section of your nearest grocery.

The Fab Five Fruit

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, without further ado, I present Michael L Butler’s Top Five Flavorful fruit:

5. KIWI: So underrated. Yes, but tasty. The only reason it isn’t higher is how the hell do you open and cut this darn thing up? And the hairy skin is unappealing as well. It also can get messy quickly.

4. WATERMELON: Nothing screams summer like this juicy giant fruit. And lifting the sucker will give you an instant weightlifting experience. It’s mandatory that is chilled, and yes it too can get messy. Also, dealing with those dastardly seeds isn’t the most fun activity, but it definitely is full of taste and is a summer-vibe fruit. So many ways to eat too. Are you a by the slice person? Or do you prefer it in chunks?

3. THE GRANNY SMITH APPLE: AKA the green or sour apple. I know I was preaching health snacks and all that, but come October I just can’t have one of these bad boys without dipping it in some (fat-free) caramel. Yum to the 100th power. Delicious. Why the Granny Smith genre apple instead of the red one? I detest the cloth-like covering of some apples. Gives me the willies. I want no part of it. Granny Smith or bust!

2. STRAWBERRIES: Truly nature’s candy. I love these guys. If you want to get truly crazy then heat up and melt chocolate with your loved ones and then well… you get the pictures. Mouth-watering. Tasty. Juice oozes out of them. Heck, I’m going to go grab a few right now! I’ll be right back.

And the №1 fruit for this dude is …

  1. GRAPEFRUIT: What? I hear lots of grumbling and booing. Yes, it’s a sleeper. Nor was it always in the top-billing spot. I didn’t even like it as a tot. I got turned on towards it as an adult when I started sprinkling powdered sugar. I eliminated that due to health reasons. It’s still glorious! I like how they have sweetness but also have a bitter punch. They’re kinda a combo of an orange and a pomelo. I proudly don them every lunch day in my twin Shriek bowls and get mocked by my colleagues. Mocked due to the Shriek bowls — that is — not the grandiose, flavorful grapefruit I so proudly prod into with my spoon.
  2. Honorable mentions: Sorry fruit fellas, you guys inspire greatness, too, and I’m sure are atop many Medium fruit eaters’ top five. Here are the unfortunate fruits that were sadly left out: blueberries (hey! I’m mad they got snubbed too! Can’t go wrong with these guys on your cereal), grapes (love the big, green, juicy football-shaped fruit), banana (can’t be mushy or too green, but definitely a delight), oranges (the proud unofficial sponsor of the AYSO soccer half-time snack), and cherries (another awesome fruit. Just not a fan of the annoying hard pit inside).

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy these fruits and my top five fruit story. Now go grab some from the fridge or grocery!
