What's the future of Zuckerberg's Metaverse?
The company, so far, has shared a bit with the general public about how well its bets are performing
Meta's biggest bet now is a VR social platform for Quest headphones called Horizon Worlds. It was recently featured in Meta's Super Bowl ad, and Zuckerberg called it "the core of our Metaverse vision" in the company's latest revenue call.
Earlier this week, during a virtual operation, the company's product manager, Chris Cox, offered employees an unreported update on the growth of Horizon users. He said that since Horizon Worlds was launched for all Quest users in the US and Canada in early December, and its monthly user base has increased by a factor of 10 times to 300,000 people, according to an employee who heard the remark.
Meta spokesman Joe Osborne confirmed the statistic and said it includes users of Horizon Worlds and Horizon Venues, a separate application for participating in live VR events that use the same basic avatars and mechanisms. The number does not include Horizon Workrooms, a VR conferencing experience that is based on an invitation system. they have shrunk as investors question its momentum, according to the Tech Times.
"So while the deepest and most immersive experiences will be in virtual reality, you'll be able to access the worlds from your Facebook or Instagram apps, and probably more over time," said the Meta CEO.
