Summary

The content discusses the concept of bucket lists, emphasizing the importance of pursuing dreams and desires despite the constraints of time.

Abstract

Bucket lists represent a collection of aspirations and promises to oneself that individuals hope to fulfill before they die. These lists often include experiences that have been postponed due to a lack of time, money, or opportunity. As people age, they may feel an increasing sense of urgency to accomplish these goals, which can range from finding a soulmate to embarking on adventurous activities like scuba diving or skydiving. The article suggests that while the pursuit of these dreams is crucial, there is also value in recognizing that the journey towards achieving them can be as fulfilling as the actual realization. It encourages a mindset that embraces the present and appreciates life's experiences, whether or not one's ultimate goals are met.

What’s On Your Bucket List?

Do you even have one? Should you?

Bucket lists are a list of dreams and desires, hopes and promises to ourselves that we hope to enjoy and realize before we die.

It is a list of things we always wanted to do, but never quite had the time, or the money, or the opportunity to ever achieve.

For whatever reasons. How about you? Do you have a bucket list?

Are you afraid now that time is slip slip sliding away and you will never get the chance to experience that cherished goal, realize that impossible dream, overcome all the odds, and win out in the end?

As we journey through the passage of our lives, many of us feel time is running out on us more rapidly than we ever thought possible.

When we were young and free, unmatched and unattached, we casually looked through our possibilities. Time was never a deterrent to achieving our dreams.

Were we ever going to find the perfect partner, soulmate, or significant other that we could vibe with? Live happily ever after with? Of course.

Maybe in some exotic vacation getaway, maybe at school or work, or maybe just the girl or boy next door we grew up with? There was no doubt.

It didn’t matter where or when. We had all the time in the world.

We just knew that it was one of the things that we would search for until we found it, that we would scheme and dream to achieve, that we would move mountains and overcome any obstacles to get to.

But now we are starting to wonder about our ambitions. We see our chances are dwindling as the sand relentlessly passes ever more rapidly through the hourglass.

We grow desperate, frantic to slow everything down, to realize our dreams.

To get to that place in space and time that we just couldn’t quite ever manage to find before. That adventure to die for, that hidden getaway on a lush, verdant tropical island, or to find our perfect soulmate.

A life of constant searching to explore and experience all that was out there, no matter the danger, the cost, or the risk.

Scuba diving, mountain climbing, or sky diving are all common examples of bucket list goals that people have these days.

To see and visit the seven wonders of the ancient world, like the ancient pyramids of Giza, the Colossus of Rhodes, or the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were on the bucket lists of people for centuries.

Time is meaningless in our goal to realize our bucket list. We will search for our dreams until we find them, no matter how long it takes.

We will expend all of our energy in a search for an unimaginable stretch of possible vistas, stretching out in a limitless, infinite array of choices, chances, and circumstances.

There is nothing we won’t do, no obstacles we can’t overcome, no risks we won’t take. It is the excitement of the chase that propels us.

It is a direct primal motivation, an overriding drive, a stubborn denial of death itself. It is our final countdown.

But what if suddenly a light bulb goes off in our minds, and we have a moment of clarity that we won’t find what we’ve always wanted? That we won’t realize our lifelong dreams, and won’t ever find the perfect partner, our soul mate?

Maybe we should just count our blessings, be happy with what we have achieved in life, and settle.

No. Never.

We don’t have to. We can have it both ways.

Because just the desire to achieve our dreams, realize our ambitions, and fully accept the fact that nirvana is a state of mind is a worthwhile one.

That the pursuit of it is a raw and very human concept, worthy of all the energy we expend to obtain it.

Because we finally accept that the chase is sometimes more fulfilling than the realization. We will still always have all the time in the world for that.

Until there is no more time. What’s on your bucket list?

Bucket lists are fun. Some are more doable than ever. We are all connected…
