Summary

The US and British Embassies in Moscow have issued warnings about potential extremist attacks targeting large gatherings, advising citizens to avoid such events in the next 48 hours, amidst ongoing tensions and speculation about the source of the threat.

Abstract

The US Embassy in Moscow has alerted its citizens to an imminent threat of extremist attacks at large public events, including concerts, urging caution over the next two days. This warning has been echoed by the British Embassy, which also advised its nationals against all travel to Russia. The vagueness of the announcements has raised concerns, as they lack specific information about the extremist groups involved. The timing of these warnings is considered suspicious, given the recent escalation in war rhetoric from Europe and the US. Possible sources of the threat mentioned include Ukrainian nationalists, though the challenging journey through the Caucus Mountains makes it unlikely to be ISIS or Pro-Palestinian factions. The Russian political opposition and Chechen nationalists are also considered improbable perpetrators due to current political alignments and the loyalty of Chechnya's leadership to Putin. The text speculates on the possibility of a false flag operation by either Russia or the West, questioning the motives behind the sudden emergence of this specific intelligence. The author emphasizes the need for international cooperation to prevent potential attacks and stresses the importance of prioritizing the safety of innocent people, regardless of political tensions.

Opinions

  • The author finds the warnings issued by the US and British Embassies to be ominous yet vague, lacking crucial details about the threat.
  • There is skepticism about whether the US is sharing this intelligence with Russia to ensure public safety, considering the strained relations between the two countries.
  • The timing of the extremist threat is viewed as suspicious, possibly linked to the increased war talk from the West.
  • The author doubts that ISIS could have traveled through the Caucus Mountains to reach Moscow and discounts Pro-Palestinian factions due to Putin's support for the Palestinian cause.
  • The possibility of the Russian political opposition being behind the threat is questioned, given their current support for Putin's policies.
  • The author rules out Chechen nationalists, noting that Chechnya is firmly under the control of Ramzan Kadyrov, a Putin ally.
  • Speculation arises about the potential for a false flag operation, with the author pondering who would benefit more from such an attack—Russia or the West.
  • The author advocates for the US, Russia, and Britain to collaborate in addressing the threat, setting aside their differences over Ukraine to protect innocent lives.
  • A recommendation is made for individuals currently in Russia to take the warnings seriously and prioritize their safety.

What’s Happening in Russia?

Earlier today, the US Embassy in Moscow stated the following:

“The Embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and US citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours.”

The British Embassy also put out a similar message:

“The US says it is “monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and US citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours.” We advise British nationals against all travel to Russia.”

These statements are ominous, but were also very vague. They talk about an extremist threat. Okay, what extremists? Who are these people? You would think that we would be given a lot more information. Especially if American citizen’s lives are at risk because of it.

Also, are we sharing intelligence with the Russians about this? I hope we are, because this is probably something that they should know so they can secure whatever needs to be secured. I worry that we aren’t, because of how bad our relations are at the moment.

I do find the timing of this rather suspicious though considering that Europe and the US have amped up the war talk over the past week. I mean, sure, this could actually be a threat by extremists, but the only extremists that I could think of that have a bone to pick with Russia at the moment are Ukrainian nationalists.

The only other explanation I could think of is that ISIS hopped in their pickup trucks and somehow got all the way to Moscow after going through the Caucus Mountains and the rough terrain that entails. I highly doubt that they would attempt such a journey.

I also do not believe it would be anyone from the Pro-Palestinian factions. Putin has been a good ally to the Palestinian cause from the getgo. There would be no reason for anyone from Hamas or other groups to start something in an allied state.

Or are we talking about the Russian political opposition? The opposition that we support and fund? I do not see the Communists (Russia’s second largest political party) committing any actions given that the Communist Party is firmly behind Putin and his policies at the moment, other than the fact that Putin is not a communist himself.

That leaves the Chechens, but it is not the early 2000s anymore. Ramzan Kadyrov has Chechnya locked in for Putin. Many of Chechnya’s best fighters are in Ukraine right now. There would be no reason for Chechen nationalists to restart a conflict that has been long settled.

So now we get into the good stuff: false flags. Either by Putin or the West. It all comes down to who would benefit more. I do not believe that Putin would benefit from any sort of attack on Moscow. It would make him look weak. The West has been itching for a fight though. I just think it is odd how suddenly the US and Britain have this information and specific timeframe.

Regardless of the reason, what needs to happen now is the US, Russia, and Britain pooling their resources and acting before such a threat is carried out. Put aside whatever is happening in Ukraine for a moment. If innocent people are involved, we must band together for their sake.

If you are in Russia right now, I advise you to heed these warnings and stay safe.
