What You Need To Know In Order To Burn Weight
Understanding this helped me go from 177Kg to 90, with no surgeries, and no magic miracle formulas.
As someone who once was very overweight and managed to burn more than 80 Kg from my body, when I see someone talking about weight, fitness or getting in shape, I always have a bug behind my ear.
Not because I doubt them, but because most of the people who do it, never seriously struggled with weight,
most of the time is some kind of fitness professional who’s been blessed by genetics since he was born and always into an active lifestyle, and decided to enter in this world because they were already smoking hot,
and they believe to have the answer to people who were raised, think, act, live and have a completely different background from themselves.
And they end up not understanding that the most important part when dealing with body issues, has actually nothing to do with the body itself.
It’s about the mind.

As someone who struggled with body image and weight issues most of my life, I always tried most diets and solutions you can find around,
(and I won’t even enter here in the other “mental” issues it brings, that’s for another article)
But, from diets to magic shakes, gym to martial arts, And even starving myself to a number, I tried.
(I mean, war prisoners do get skinny don’t they?)
Needless to say it didn’t work or bring any lasting results right?
Well, Of course I always managed to see a lower number on the scale for a while, but after some time they would always come back rushing to me as soon as I got emotional about something.
But none ever Lasted.
Nowadays when people around me start talking about how to get in shape, weight loss, or anything related to the body and I say that that to achieve your fitness goals, the exercises you do, the diets you choose, and whatever you want to do are actually the least important points you should worry about,
They think I’m crazy.
The “What are you saying?”, “What do you think you know about it?” “How can you say that?” always comes into play.
Well, honestly? I don’t know a lot.
But I can assure you one thing:
If you don’t change your mind before everything else and start shaping your daily actions according to the lifestyle the person you want to become has,
there will never be an exercise, diet, or miracle, that will ever get you to what you want, doesn’t matter how much you try.
When I started to effectively lose weight, get in shape, and not need a single day of “motivation” or “ultra discipline” to go training and start achieving my goals, was when I understood this.
Hard Mentality Created By Lifestyle
Here’s one example of why I don’t believe in restrictive diets.
Imagine you are one of those very cool work colleagues, and on your lunch break you went to the grocery store to grab something to eat,
there was a very tasty-looking cake you decided to buy, but since the cake is big and you don’t want all of those calories to yourself you get it to the office and shares it with your colleagues.
Most people you work with are already in the kitchen having a slice, but you notice 2 people are missing.
You ask about them and Lucy the cleaning lady who speaks with everyone, tells you they won’t come eating because they both are on diets.
But since you’re truly caring and the cake is so amazing that people are already on the 3rd slice, you want everyone to have one, after all it’s a very-tasting chocolate with strawberry cake.
You go up to their tables to invite them directly since you can’t bring a slice there because eating at work station is against the rules.
You arrive and go:
“Hey guys, there is a very nice chocolate with strawberry cake in the kitchen I got for a nice deal and everyone is having a slice, Jim is already on the 3rd one, come have a break and grab a slice before it’s over, everyone is there having a piece come”
John colleague number one answers:
“I can’t, sorry, I won’t eat this cake because I’m on a diet and need to lose weight, so no.
Susie colleague number two goes:
“I won’t eat cake today I’m sorry, as much as I like, my lifestyle doesn’t allow me to eat sugar or any junk-food outside Sundays”
Now, based just on the way each one of them answered and without other info.
Who do you think it would be easier to persuade and make them come to the kitchen and grab a slice since a small one won’t do any harm?
Which Mindset do you believe it’s harder to break?
The Guy who’s trying to resist the tempation based on a diet,
Or the Girl who is doing it based on her lifestyle?
Can you spot the strength difference between their two mentalities?
If You just want to lose some weight that will be your goal,
honestly, it’s not a very strong goal to base all your daily decisions and resist all the temptations life throws at you at every moment,
After the cake, there will be a small chocolate bar at the grocery shop, the cookie pack on the shelf at home after a tiring day of work, and the ice cream pot you bought 3 days ago,
Not even speaking about the invite from your partner to go grab some pizza tonight.
The longer you keep testing your “resistance to temptation” the harder it will be to maintain it.
But once you adopt a mentality that you either do or don’t things, because they don’t fit the person you are trying to become,
It gets easier to not doubt yourself.
It’s a “reason-based” decision.
That is also, why I’m very against restrictive diets, I don’t believe something that forbids you from anything will work,
we are humans, we are supposed to fall into temptation,
that’s the “original 1st sin” isn’t it?
What you need to understand, is that You are free to do whatever you want,
but will that be good for you?
Or are you just falling to self-destructive old habits again?
Because the person you dream so much about becoming, probably doesn’t make half of the decisions in the same way you do on your day.
What’s stopping you from doing it the same way?
Remember, Ask yourself:
“Does the person I want to become, do these actions and in the way I do?”
If the answer is no, you know exactly what you need to do in order to become that person,
just take responsibility and act.
Otherwise, you’re just imagining the destination without walking down the road.
