Personal Growth Strategies & Stories
What would you do if you had all the money in the world?
Saad, what would you do if you had all the money in the world?
Over the last few weeks, I have been asking my friends this question. Some would immediately laugh at it. Some would share their list of things to buy. Some would start fantasizing. And then some would just get irritated because it sounds impossible.
But eventually they would come to understand what it meant by all the money.
It will give them access to everything that money can buy.
A friend of mine started sharing his list and it got interesting once he started to realize the deeper meaning. The list went like this :
“Ok, I will buy this car, get the latest iPhone, buy smart devices for home….
… But you are talking about all the money right? I can pay my rents, buy my grocery. Hell, I can buy a house, renovate it to my heart’s content, purchase unlimited supplies of grocery, hire employees to help me in the household, travel to places in first class, stay in the best hotels & resorts…
…If I have all the money in the world, why do I need to continue my day job? I can quit and do whatever I want to do. I will watch movies, TV shows, play games, and do all sorts of fun stuff…
…And then what will I do?”
That is when they started realizing what the question truly meant. Having all the money will give you the freedom to focus on what you really want to do. It will free up time for you to use in the way which is most meaningful to you.
In reality, I was asking a question cloaked under the original one:
“What would you do if you had the freedom to utilize your time in any way you want?”
And at this point the heartfelt & sincere answers started to pour in.
“ I will create music / I will learn to paint/ play the violin”
“ I will create households for underprivileged families / schools for underprivileged children”
“I will travel all the countries in the world”
The list went on. They realized what their hearts desired the most.
Life is too short to be not doing the things you truly want to do. Every resource will come and go, except time. So, if we decide what we want to do with our time, nothing should get in our way. In fact, everything else will fall in line if you are resolute with what you want to do.
And that is when I asked the second question, and I think we should all ask ourselves the same question too:
“Then what is stopping you from doing what you truly want?”
