What We Need to Teach the Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow

As the world of social media continues to provide a platform for entrepreneurial pursuits, we are seeing more people partake in creating new things.

Although it is good to see the individuality of others on display, we must be careful to ensure that it does not override our social responsibility. That responsibility is to ensure that our output into the world does not put others directly at harm.

That starts with teaching entrepreneurs the importance of what they do and its purpose. Good entrepreneurship comes about when the individual takes personal account of their output and has a strong vision.

So, in this short, I will highlight the importance of defining the purpose of entrepreneurship and what we should teach the next set of business creators.

Defining the Purpose of Entrepreneurship

Unfortunately, education is taught from a third-person perspective. We teach most of the grounding subjects (maths, science, history, English) in the third person because they hold true concepts for us all. Gravity is a reality we all experience, so it would not make sense to teach it from a personal first-person perspective.

However, teaching in this way removes the unique interpretations of the concept we can all have. And it is in these different perspectives we find creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial spirits.

The one thing that brings all entrepreneurs together is a pursuit of a world that could be based on their perspective. All entrepreneurs have a strong call to create a reality that they can see that leads to value creation for society. However, this call is not enough to ensure it benefits us all. We must teach something stronger.

Teaching the Next Entrepreneurs

In a world where there is so much noise, we may feel like our voices, visions, and dreams are insignificant. This could lead us to devalue the importance of our messages and also our own accountability over the things we create.

In the future, we need entrepreneurs who have a strong sense of accountability. They must be able to both self-reflect on their creation and hold themselves accountable to ensure a society where their ideas bring about mutual benefit.

Therefore, teaching accountability to those who are creating today and for the future will be a key enabler for better entrepreneurs. When we teach accountability we end up with a better definition of entrepreneurship. And that is:

An individual that seeks to build the world as it could be to enhance the lives of those within society.
