What Waking Up At 6 A.M. Does With Me

It’s 6.15 am when I’m typing these words. I woke up fifteen minutes ago. I set my alarm at 5.30 am to snooze. In the summer this year, I decided to wake up early and look what happen to me when I wake up at 6 am every day. I needed a change somehow.

I needed me to be more aware of things and not be tired all the time. Besides all this, I wanted more me-time.

I thought: ‘why not trying waking up at 6 am? What does happen to me and my body when doing this?’

So, this experiment when along since this summer. I have done this for two weeks before I went on holiday with my family.

It’s a new habit I want creating. I am trying to get more out of my time by waking up at 6 am.

I have to think about staying with my grandparents in my childhood. When I stayed with them, I always must wake up at 6 am. Praying while sitting at the side of my bed. I didn’t want to pray, but I did it out of respect for my grandparents. My grandparents believed in God. I respected their values and decisions. To be honest, I think I learned waking up at 6 am at an early age. I think it is in my system still, haha.

You health

I also realized some effects on my body since waking up this early. In the first week, I was very tired waking up this early. But I also knew I had to get this kind of discipline — which I never had. So, it is a win-win for me. I also got more colds because I never used to get up early and it was at a sudden for my body. In the summer I wasn't waking up this early much. I set my mind on sleeping more I guess. I knew I had to do it again when the kids are going to school. I started waking up at 6 am again two weeks before starting school. Since then, I am having this habit now.

As I said, I got more colds, my body was colder as I thought I was getting a cold. But that wasn’t the case. But I think I’ll get one when the winter is hitting me in the face, although the winter isn’t that cold here in The Netherlands. There is always a chance to get a cold.

As far as I am now in my experiment, I woke up at 6 am every day. So, I think, this experiment has gone well for me.

I have moments that my health isn’t well and I am tired, especially on Thursdays, because the evening before I got my orchestra rehearsals. Then I come home late. But I believe you have to be consistent for your health and body to continue waking up at 6 am.

What are the benefits

For me, the benefits of waking up at 6 am, are being more productive in writing. I write more, but not effective yet. I am still learning this. I have less lack of concentration, I can think better what I want for that day.

I feel more rest in my head and my body. Which lead to more positive thoughts (I already had more positive thoughts, but this got more as I wake up early).

After all, I like waking this early!
