What Types of Products You Can Sell on Gumroad
I’ve made $200+ from 7 sales with zero promotion.

If you follow my posts, you might know that I’ve recently launched my first product on Gumroad.
I decided to test the platform and the opportunity of making money by selling digital products online.
The Gumroad report says that 17.26% of creators made at least $1,000 from the platform in 2020. Whereas, in total, creators made $142,000,000!
The opportunity is clearly there.
If you are a content creator, it’s worth exploring the platform and trying it out yourself.
If you don’t know where to start, here is what you can sell on Gumroad.
1. Any set of files to download or stream
“Go from 0 to $1” — is the motto of Gumroad.
The platform eliminates obstacles like fear, uncertainty, and “impostor” syndrome, which prevent novice creators from making the first step forward.
They are often reluctant to sell their expertise cause they believe they are not good enough.
Staying in the comfort zone surrounded by fears never helped anyone make their lives better.
Instead, you can start with something small and simple, like a checklist to make your first dollar on Gumroad.
One of the most popular product types that content creators sell on Gumroad are downloadable digital products, like:
- Checklist
- Template
- Calendar
- Curated lists
- Case studies
- How-to guides and tutorials
- Designs
- Media files
- Apps
- Software
- Podcast
and many more!
To get started, add your product name and description. Upload the preview images and the product file. Indicate pricing and hit “Publish.”
Here we go!
Your first digital product is live!

2. Single lessons or massive online courses
Have you figured something out that might be helpful for others?
Why not teach people through an online course?
The successful course creators make $1k-$10k per month from selling online courses.
Jacques Hopkins, CEO, and Founder of Piano in 21 Days, made over $2 million teaching others his simple piano method for playing hit songs.
This is already a decent monthly income!
Don’t rush to create your first online course just yet, though! It is a time and resource-consuming hustle.
You need to validate your course idea first. Then, write scripts, shoot content, put together videos, and do editing.
That’s why online courses are usually more expensive than checklists or books.
Despite the creation hustle, online courses are a popular option nowadays for a few reasons:
- Any topic can be covered in a course
- No need to deal with inventory or shipping charges
- High-profit margins
- Recurring revenue
The most expensive course I’ve purchased so far was $1,000. And I am not the only one!
The global eLearning market is expected to quadruple from around $250 billion in 2020 to $1 trillion in 2027.
Therefore, you are not late to the party yet!
3. Sell eBooks
Selling ebooks is my favorite.
Let me tell you a secret.
Ebook is an untapped opportunity for content creators since you can repurpose your popular content into an ebook and sell it on Gumroad!
It’s easy and relatively fast!
You don’t need to come up with new ideas.
Instead, you utilize what’s proven to work!
My ebook is based on this popular article I wrote some time ago: “A Simple Way to Write an Article That Hits Google’s Front Page.”
I’ve made seven ebook sales on Gumroad in my first 1.5 months with no promotion. And you can too! I wrote an in-depth Gumroad review, covering my experience as a creator and seller.

4. Sell memberships
A membership is a group or a community of people united with a common goal to cope with a particular challenge.
If you possess skills that might be useful to others, you can share your knowledge via a paid membership.
In other words, you can charge a small fee to someone willing to stay in touch with you and learn from you.
Jesse Enkamp, a Karate instructor, has made six figures selling Karate membership, a private online video subscription club, on Gumroad.
Here is how Jesse ended up selling Karate membership on Gumroad:
“People were asking me the same questions over and over again. I just had to make a product because there was a lot of demand.
I’d sell tickets to my karate seminars through Gumroad. I’d have professional videographers come to my training camps and film them. Then I would presale those videos to people who couldn’t attend the camp. And then after the camp, I would sell those videos to other people, as well.
It wasn’t until later that I realized I could do memberships and weekly videos. Gumroad has been essential for my business, especially when it comes to digital products.”
5. Go offline
Many choose to create and sell digital products because it seems easier.
However, you can also advertise and sell your physical products on Gumroad.
As a marketer, I’ve always wanted to create a productivity planner for marketers.
As a content creator, I’ve got an idea to create an inspiration journal for side hustlers.
I might make my dreams come true one day. On the other hand, if you are faster, I won’t regret sharing these ideas publicly. I believe these products might be helpful for people.
Kristina Garner, Founder and CEO of Blossom and Root, a homeschool curriculum, is one of the top-earning creators selling homeschooling products on Gumroad.
Kristina shares:
“In the beginning, I wasn’t trying to build a business. I was just writing for my daughters.”
That’s right!
If you want to create a physical product that people will love, use it on your own first.
This way, you’ll stumble upon all frustration and happy moments associated with your product.
Remember, the goal of your product is to solve people’s problems. If it’s helpful and valuable, people will buy from you.
Final thoughts
As a marketer and content writer, I learned that anything could be sold online.
The topic does not matter.
Competition does not matter.
The value you share and self-marketing are what help you gain attention and sales.
I created my ebook on “How to hit Google front page,” knowing that dozens of similar solutions exist on the market.
Yet, I made over $100 from selling my ebook on Gumroad in the first month.
Was it a coincidence? No!
Was it luck? No!
Your achievements are the results of your efforts, motivation, and persistence.
