What They Won’t Tell You About Social Media
The dark side of social media.

Wait a minute, can you imagine “lockdown”, "stay at home" and “self-isolation” without the internet. Of course, I know the answer is Hell-No.
How would the world have been without streaming EPL matches, Anthony Joshua’s match, Virat Kohli games, etc? Boring! The Internet is one of the biggest blessings in the 21st century. Imagine the advantages:
- Availability of information
- Online marketing and advertisement
- Formal and informal education.
- Entertainment: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok Skype, WhatsApp, Netflix, YouTube, sky sport, etc.
With these large and amazing social media platforms available, one may “never" be bored.
Here's the hint:
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. 2Corithians4:18
There’s more to what you do know about the internet and social media.
Recently, especially among the youth, we cannot live our lives independent of our mobile phones.
Only a few persons know that phone addiction is also another form of medically recognized addiction called NOMOPHOBIA. Its a shortened form of "No Mobile Phone Phobia" Research shows that this medical condition is now becoming a global pandemic.
Over 50% of British people who owned a phone in the last 15 years are anxious about not losing their phones.
Research was carried out on about 145 first-year medical students in India, the result shows that 17.9% of the participants had mild nomophobia. For 60 percent of participants, nomophobia symptoms were moderate, and for 22.1 percent, symptoms were severe
Now you know:
1. The internet providers, only allow what they want you to see and know. Like a mini-hub for controlling the globe, they do so without your knowledge.
How about the nude pop ups on our computer, the ads, television broadcasts with lots of adult contents, violence, and abuse. You pay to access some education sites, while porn sites are nearly freely available.
I received a link regarding an alleged secret agenda of covid19 and some sorts of conspiracy by WHO and big pharm. I delayed by 2hours before considering opening the link.
Here’s what I found "Error 404 not found". What a f**k is happening? Is this a sort of modern-day slavery? How come we are placed in a box so that we can’t think outside it!
In my opinion, the high rate of depression, divorce, suicide, drug addiction, pornography addiction e.t.c are traceable to the unrealistic expectations that the media has presented to us.
I think perfect objectivity is an unrealistic goal; fairness, however, is not. Michael Pollan
2. The trends:
We are not naturally motivated by success, we hustle to make a living because we don’t wanna be broke. Our motives are not to be impactful, but to escape the snare of hardship and penury.
Our motivation is drowned from the avoidance of the negative aspects of life. As a result, psychologically we are quick to knowing all the evils around town because that’s where we get our motivation from. This is what the media provides for us; About who killed who, about the airplane crash, economic recession, the rape, murder, government inadequacies, etc
Over time we get used to nagging and we live by fear and anxiety.
3. We pay for garbages:
For entertainment sake, we press our phones till we get old at a spot. We pay to waste our time, not knowing that our lives are measured in time.
Seconds sum up to become minutes and minutes add up to become hours, hours become day, days to a week, weeks to months, and months to years.
My favorite things in life don't cost any money. It's really clear that the most precious resource we all have is time. Steve Jobs
According to research, about 60% of teens ranging from 13-17 spend nearly 9 hours on social media daily.
Guess what? Many of these kids spend their data and time on viewing adult content. Little wonder why our kids perform poorly due to a low attention span.
3. Bridge in human to human relations:

The true taste of friendship has long lost its aroma. You and I rather ask Google for counsel than asking friends. We can’t trust people any longer because we don’t know what it takes to build better friendships anymore.
Even in the midst of our pals, we spend most of the time replying to messages and viewing Instagram photos.
Who has bewitched us? There’s still more we can learn from one and another, more happiness can be lavishly shared. Wise companies can still make us wise.
One good relationship can rekindle our lives. Life can get better with good people living happily together
Someone to tell it to is one of the fundamental needs of human beings.” — Miles Franklin
Final notes:
- Life is a measure of time, learn to live apart from your mobile.
- When you search the web, do so to improve your life
