Summary

The undefined website discusses the multifaceted benefits of female orgasms, advocating for their recognition in improving health, alleviating pain, enhancing brain function, and potentially slowing aging.

Abstract

The "Making Waves" column on the undefined website explores the underappreciated role of female sexuality and its intrinsic connection to overall health. It emphasizes the therapeutic effects of orgasms, such as pain relief, improved sleep, and enhanced skin health due to estrogen and oxytocin release. The author, who is nearing fifty, shares personal anecdotes and encourages women to prioritize their sexual well-being, suggesting that societal undervaluation of women's sexual pleasure contributes to broader health issues. The column promises weekly stories from diverse female perspectives, aiming to destigmatize the topic and promote a society where women feel empowered to embrace their sexuality for better health outcomes and personal satisfaction.

Opinions

Welcome to my new weekly column that was created to help more people understand and appreciate the complexities of female sexuality, which is intrinsically tied to health as well.

Every Monday, a new story will be published in regard to this topic. The stories will come from women around the world whom I know personally, as well as those I’ve never known.

I will write freely and frankly, as though I were writing in my diary or talking to one of my girlfriends, so that guards might come down, and minds are more likely to be opened to new information.

Thoughts will flow like rivers and possibly make waves.

Orgasms come in waves which is why I named this column “Making Waves.” I wish for more women to embrace themselves literally and metaphorically, unafraid of creating waves.

This one girlfriend’s experience

One of my closest and longest friends has been in excruciating pain for the past few weeks due to an accident at home. I have been checking on her regularly and suggesting things that could help make her pain, the physical and mental aspects, more bearable, for I’ve never known her to be in that much pain for so long.

Thankfully, she and I have spoken candidly about our health and sexuality over the years, so I could tell her without any qualms that I think she should orgasm more frequently, even if she is not in the mood.

This was after she told me she had gotten some relief after having some acupuncture sessions and physical therapy. Something clicked. I remembered that when I used to get horrible cramps during the first and second days of my period, I would make myself orgasm a lot which helped for a few hours.

When you’re in terrible, consistent pain, any relief is welcomed! I used to do the same when I would have awful headaches which have never been the norm for me. Having orgasms didn’t always make them go away, but they did alleviate the pain and helped me sleep better.

So what does slow ageing?

My friend is also prone to insomnia, so she could kill two birds with one stone.

Since she is a medical assistant and is someone whom I thought would be more motivated to take my advice, upon reading articles based on scientific studies, I decided to look up current information to send her.

I’m really glad I did because I actually learned yet another incredibly wonderful benefit of having orgasms, that I shared with a different friend right away — since she’s always seeking out things to improve the appearance of her aging skin.

As I quickly approach fifty, I am very happy to know this as well.

Much research has gone into the effects of estrogens and aging skin. According to DovePress, studies have concluded that: the administration of estrogen can significantly delay skin aging. Increased levels of estrogen in the body help improve skin elasticity, and can also help with helping your skin retain its moisture.

None of us are alone here in this crazy, beautiful, fucked up, and awe-inspiring universe. As much as I love my time alone, I feel compelled to help others feel less alone and less lonely, because being alone by choice is world different than the loneliness that can make people feel that they’re abandoned by life itself.

And the other chemicals that help us?

Oxytocin is my favorite chemical that the body produces. When I took Anatomy and Physiology in school, the only time this chemical was mentioned was breastfeeding. Mom and baby are flooded with it during that time, and so are we when we orgasm, particularly women.

Women release more oxytocin when we orgasm which has been scientifically proven to have enormous health benefits, yet it’s hardly ever discussed. It hurts my heart that women’s sexuality tends to be swept under the rug, even amongst ourselves.

And at the same time, I feel emboldened and motivated to shout out to anyone who will listen and possibly take heed of these facts. I can’t stop, nor do I want to stop, imagining a bold, new world full of people, especially females who prioritize their sexual health and satisfaction for the sake of us all.

Imagine that…
