What Should You Do In A Nuclear Attack?

A guide to survive

Photo by Pablo Stanic on Unsplash

We all know the war in Ukraine is a real threat; with many innocent people already losing their lives, we pray for a peaceful resolution, no matter how faith that may seem at this moment in time.

A threat that we have now become aware of is the nuclear one; many of us are worried, and for very good reason; whilst this article I hope is never used, I do have some knowledge on how to survive a nuclear attack.

When you hear the sirens

DO NOT RUN — you will be exposed straight away, and the roads will be gridlocked with people trying to escape. So what should you do?

  1. Find shelter; your best initial defence would be to find an underground shelter such as a substation; if not, find a strong concrete building with thick walls; always go to the basement if it has one; you may survive the initial blast.
  2. After the initial blast, stay inside for at least 72 hours; this will give the atmosphere enough time to settle down, which will increase your survival rate.
  3. Once you can go out, try to stockpile food, tins of packaged food only, leave everything else. Do not attempt to eat or drink damaged goods.
  4. Turn on your phone, radio, etc. Try to communicate with any other survivors and listen out for news.
  5. Cover up before you go out, with as much protection as you can have, then look for information and a potential route out of the affected area. Time is of the essence, so do this quickly, then get back underground until you have a plan.
  6. When you are ready to leave, search for others, make friends, share information; however, do not get too close; they could be infected and pass that onto you.
  7. Head south, a nuclear winter could kill you because temperatures go below minus, so ironically, you are looking for the warmest place, furthest away from the blast as you can get.

I hope this information will never have to be used, but it is worth retaining it or saving it, should the worst happen.
