What Should I Name This Moth In Uganda?

Somebody out there must know.

This beautiful moth was hanging out on our door frame in Uganda. Photo Credit: Author

This beautiful moth was hanging out on the door frame of a building here in Uganda yesterday. It measured about 1–1.5" (2.5–3.8cm) from its eyes to its tail. The wingspan was maybe 2".

I posted it on my Instagram stories, and a friend commented.

No way! You saw a Venezuelan Poodle Moth in Uganda!

I was excited! This creature had a name!

But when I looked it up online, the poodle moth didn’t look like this one.

So now I am back to the drawing board!

I researched Ugandan moths, but there are so many! I didn’t know how I would ever figure it out, but then I thought of Medium. I thought that with all the nature experts in the Weeds & Wildflowers publication, somebody might know something!?

Does anyone know the name of this moth?

And no, I’m not looking for a name, like Joe, or Bob. Although Farid has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? HA!

Cheers guys! Thanks for the assistance:)
