The best of what became the Golden Rock Era owes its success to the creators of the twelve-bar sound. Blues greats blazed a trail up the Mississippi River all the way to Chicago, leaving a trail for younger generations to emulate.
But out of the West came the person who would electrify our senses like no other, ushering in a new sound with deep blues roots. And while we celebrate the 80th anniversary of his birth today, I can’t help but wonder what might have been had he lasted more than twenty-seven years on this earth.
The obvious pun aside, Jimi Hendrix set the rock world on fire with his guitar stylings. Yet, there was never a question that his prowess lay firmly rooted in blues history. With nary a twitch, Hendrix poured his soul out on an upside six-string and held nothing back.
Watch here as he effortlessly works through his own blues classic. It’s amazing to watch the licks he’s putting down while he sings the lyrics.

Jimi Hendrix at 80!
It’s fun to imagine, isn’t it?
Then, we truly would be experienced.
