What Medium Has Taught Me About Life

Lessons learned after writing for two weeks on the platform

I dove into the world of Medium two weeks ago not knowing a lick of anything about it.

All I knew was that it was a freelance writing site to help writers sharpen their writing skills, build their portfolio and fan base and earn some money on the side.

That was it.

The more I studied the site, the more information I’ve discovered. The more I participated in the site, the more I learned about life.

Here’s what I’ve learned and how it’s helped me:

Persistence Is Key.

This is true for anything in life.

If you want to be good at something, you have to stick with it. You have to show up every day no matter what.

For two weeks on Medium, I have published at least one article every day. I have stayed consistent and persistent.

By doing so, I’ve seen some amazing results.

I’ve gained a great number of followers. I’m interacting with other members. I’ve grown as a writer.

I’m achieving everything I set out to do on Medium.

Because I show up every day.

If you would like to be successful in Medium, and in life, persistence is key. There’s no other way around it.

Never Stop Writing.

This is just a given.

If you want to be a writer and a successful one at that, you can’t stop writing.

Sure, there will be days when you write more than others, but you can’t stop altogether. If possible, just write down ideas or a little something.

Not writing at all will hurt you in the long run.

There is plenty of Medium writers who only write every so often. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Nevertheless, the more I read about it, the more I’ve discovered in order to be successful on Medium, you have to publish something every day.

How to do that?

You need to write every day.

By doing so, you will see results in no time. And you’ll become a better writer in the long run.

This has worked for me, and it will work for you too.

Communicate As Much As You Can.

Communication is another key to life, and I’ve got a great skill to have for Medium.

When members interact with you on Medium through comments, always reply to them. Get a conversation started if possible.

Whatever you do, always communicate.

That member took the time out to read your article and reply to it. The least you could do is interact.

Along with communicating, networking is key. Get in touch with as many people as you can to make yourself well-known and expand your list of people you know.

This will no doubt be vital in the long run, on Medium, and in life.

Patience Is a Virtue.

Not every story will be a success.

But with patience, your time in the sun will come.

As long as you stay consistent and patient, great things will come to those who wait. It did for me.

My first story never received any views. Heck, my first couple stories barely had any. But I stayed consistent and patient.

Now, my stories have been viewed over 1,100 times in two weeks. That’s pretty impressive in my book.

It’s all because I stayed patient.

Like the only saying, great things come to those who wait.

Never Give Up.

This may be an overused statement, but it’s one that will help you in the long run.

If you give on Medium and in life, you’re doomed for failure. Nevertheless, it doesn’t have to be that way.

It will take hard work, dedication, and persistence to do well on Medium and in life, but it’ll all be worth it.

I haven’t given up in two weeks, and I’ve done very well for myself. And you can too.

Just keep your eye on the prize and never back down from anything.

You’ll be so glad you did.

Final Thoughts.

I’ve learned so much already during two weeks of writing on Medium. I have no doubt I will learn more further down the road.

Life isn’t about the destination. It’s about the journey.

By using the tips above, you can be successful on Medium and in life. It’s worked for me, and it can work for you too.

I believe in whatever you do. I’m rooting for you.
