What Makes the Lips Depart?

A poem about happiness

What is it, the word the phrase Is it what makes the lips depart? Separating like biblical waters, forging a path to salvation. I know this is not an exact comparison Perhaps not even a good one, Yet, it is what came to me You can say, what my soul whispered. I have been learning to meditate And tap into my inner self, Acceptance is what is preached, Submission to you heart's needs.

Back to the parting of the seas It is not the phenomenon that makes me smile, But the lives that were saved that day. In that regard, what I am saying is, What brightens up my gloomy face Is acts that better lives, Whether as grand as splitting waters Or simple gestures we see everyday.

Sometimes the world Can be a gloomy place, Watch the news sometimes and you may think WW3 might start tomorrow. At the present, you may be scared to leave your house For a virus awaits at your doorstep.

I guess what I’m saying is What is magnified is fear and sadness, Not that it is not warranted, But amidst the chaos We forget that there is a lot of beauty too.

So every time I see a nice gesture Or an act of kindness, My heart gets warmed and I become revitalized. For it is a reminder that good exists And sometimes we forget that.

Written in response to Lucy The Eggcademic (she/her) prompt, ‘describe happiness without saying happy’. As I am writing this I am realizing I may have yet again missed the mark on a prompt. Thank you all for reading and thanks to Lucy for letting me bottle another one of her prompts. 😊
